Brushless 1/8 Scale Buggy

I think I have a new drug!:shock:

Been watching 1/8 scale buggies converter to BL/Lipo. All I can say is I WANT ONE.

Just priced a Associated RC8 and a conversion kit, not to bad.

Already own a Spectrum, Mamba Max, Hitec 5595.

So it loks like I'll be hitting HH up for a motor and battery soon (I hope)!:twisted:

Anyone have one already?

I've been trying to find a bunch of these 1/8 buggy brushless videos.... or good ones at least. Where are you finding most of them? Just on u-tube?

Nitro has got to be shaking in their boots for sure though...

I have a conversion going on right now, just need to get the battery tray sorted out. I can't wait to get it done! I started with a jammin XRC or something. I can't remember it has been so long since I bought it :lol:

Nitro killers are friggin cool! My brother converted an Ofna 9.5 to brushless and got it published in R/C Car magazine. That thing was FAST! This was back in the day before the Mamba Max when brushless systems resembled science fair projects.

I can't wait to get mine going. It has been the longest non running r/c project I have. It is a Kyosho MP7.5 with a 9XL and Mamba Max.

I will eventually get around to putting the other battery tray in there and run it on 12 cells. It has been so long since I've driven something other than a crawler, that I thought it was fast on 6 cells.

mamba max is not the best for 1:8th electrics

a Jazz 55-10-32 + 8-10s Lipo or 10-12s A123 and a motor with 1000-1500rpm/V is the better way :lol:

i use a Jazz 55-10-32 and a Lehner 1930-10Y


peak amps are low , 39A with 8s Lipo and 43A @ 10s Lipo

from an 1/8th truggy jazz 55 and neu 1512-2Y and 10s A123

Because people aren't afraid to "hack" a nitro into a faster electric version. That is like telling somebody last year to wait for a crawler until a proper kit comes out.

For the same reason most prefer to build their on crawlers. It makes it personal.

I'm a racer not a speed freak, so I'll wait for a properly engineered and much lighter set up that performs on the track.

I've seen plenty of video showing bl totally waste nitro on the track. A lot of times the conversions are the same weight if not lighter than the nitros.

Incorrect, it is the drivers that suck at racing electrics. More power, more torque from a standstill, takes a better driver and attention to setup. RC Driver did a comparison between a slimer and converted buggy. The writers decided that the nitro was better because they were used to it and could drive it. They didn't try regearing, they didn't try tweaking the ESC.

How is a balanced electric buggy any different than something a factory would produce? A shiny sticker that says electric?

I've seen races live, sorry not convinced at all. Nitro has always won in the area I live.

The races i've seen posted on Youtube and others all show the Nitro losing the straight away race, not in the rest of the track or track times. 6hp motors will beat a 2 hp engine, thats pretty simple. But a properly designed/balanced suspension and chassis set up will win in the corners.

I like the idea, don't get me wrong, but the implementation isn't race ready. Also I have no problem with people putting them together, I too like to build and tinker.

Comparing it with Crawling however is not appropriate. In crawling while some might use an entire axle they do not use the entire X-Factor and just replace the engine with a motor and it works. This explains why a T4 is a totally different layout than a GT2.

Also compounding on the handling, people converting tend to use cheap buggies like Ofna's, Duratraxs, to save money. My area people do use Mugens and the new Team Losi 8's which are way better than converted cheap buggies, but again the chassis still isn't best suited for electric yet.

These are very well engineered kits that convert the best 1/8 buggies on the market to BL/Lipo. The kit I want for the new RC8 is extremely well balanced. Not hacked at all.

Should have heard the whining on the video! :lol:

That and the fact that they (nitro drivers) couldn't out run him on the straight was hilarious!

I've been on the fence about converting my Losi 8ight to electric. But the cost to do so is prohibitive to me (and I really like the noise of nitro). One thing that is gonna really help the argument for electric though is noise. It's hard to find space for a track that isn't near houses. Our track is about 300 yards from the nearest house and those pricks would call the cops in a heartbeat if we didn't have our noise permit. It's the same reason our MX track is on the verge of getting shut down.

If someone were to come out with a center slipper to replace the center diff, that would really help for racing. Although you then lose the ability to adjust power transfer front/rear.

Off the line and instant 50 mph...only problem is keeping the wheels on the ground when not in dirt...

No...... Electric is much better at racing. Electric motors will actually have alot more torque than a nitro engine. This makes them fast out of the corners and fast from a dead stop.

Electric will always win over nitro.

Sorry thats not always true.

More torque tends to cause more wheel spin, thus killing "your" claimed advantage quickly.

Also more power out of corners doesn't help, since because you are hacking together something and greatly changing the blanace of the vehicle you lost a ton of time in the corner.

I've yet to see a good 5-10 minute race between the 2 on Youtube in which an electric won.
