alright guys, to clear the air "boo boo" came way before the obese child on TLC made it big, "boo boo" is what my son calls my truck since its a blue blue color LOL,

so im taking a new job thats about 4-1/2 hrs from home each way and i dont want to put my old girl through that kind of torture so ill be picking up a small car or something for the communte which means i get a new project..! i want to turn my DD into a sweet trail truck or a exo-caged crawler and anything in between, i have alot of buddies with cj's xj's yj's tj's and ONE sick k5 tow rig that go hit trails and i just cant keep up or i have to take the easy way around with my setup now.

as of now all ive seen in a square body (73-87) crawler and trail truck is the ultimate adventure rig and alot of off-road designs stuff, does anyone know of a 1:1 site or forum maybe that i can get some pointers and see pics and builds etc so i can get this thing going? income tax is coming around so nows my chance lol

so far its a slightly modified k10 classic, factory 305sbc, y-pipe to a cherry bomb dumped at the rear end, th700r4 for that extra highway gear, np-208, 10-bolt axles with auto hubs, 4" superlift easy ride, 35" goodyear wranglers on their way out, 15x9 factory rallys with beauty rings, all the factory trim, electric everything, 2 optima yellow-tops, viair 444c compressor, 10-gal 4 port tank, everythings been converted to led using factory lenses outside, leds in the bed for trail repairs, full air tool kit, fully equiped "trail ready" bed box with all the trimmings, 6000k hids on all 4 high/low beams and a 24" rigid bar, so all im lacking is the performance side of things, come on guys, i wanna make this happen! anyone have some ideas? maybe links to builds or pics? post em up! i need inspiration,

Is Coloradok5 more Gm based or has it gone mainstream?

Ummmmm ColoradoK5, you know K5 like the chevy blazer...

If you want to do anything but drive gravel roads you'll be spending some coin on parts. That 10 bolt rear axle is crap on a good day, Find a mid 90's half ton Z71 and use it's semi floater 14 bolt. It's a bolt in and a huge improvement in strength over the factory junk. I'm not much of a 10 bolt front axle fan either but it's pretty much the same strength wise as a dana 44 so just run it. You'll be doing good if the 700r4 stays alive but a BIG cooler and mild shift kit will help it along. The 208 t case sucks but most of the problem is with the slip yoke on the rear output. There are kits available to convert it to a fixed yoke but for the cost it's better to just replace it with a 205.

Ok guys I meant like pirate4x4 is all makes and models, I was hoping it would be gm only that way my questions will be answered more accurately and quickly,

As for the axles I was hoping for the 1-ton swap how hard is it? And I was planning on a be cool radiator and im looking into trans cooler, what gearing should I run in my axles? I have 3.56 gearing now I believe, I dont want to put any money into their axles if they're crap and i know half ton gear is crap.

Between Coloradok5 and pirate you will be hard pressed to have a question that won't be answered.

1 ton axles bolt in directly. The best bang for the buck you'll likely find is going to be to get a set of axles from a military 1 ton. They'll have 4.56 gears and the rear will have a factory detroit no spin.

I've been trying for years to get my dad to sell me his k30 military 1-ton, 4wheelparts built Dana 60, and ff 14-bolt rear end, 4.88 Yukons, ox joints, Detroit's, high steer and crossover by ord, 10" lift by ord, hd greasable shackles, rear ord shackle flip, 42" iroks, 16" welds, 383 stroker, bulletproof th400, np205, WITH a/c lol and the list goes on lol

I drove it on the highway the day that picture was taken. Its long dead and gone now, an ever evolving disease of wheeling.......Got a crew cab I'm adding a 3rd axle too soon, another to go on my topkick, a 3rd that I'm going to bag, convertible and drop some day, and a k5 waiting for me to decide what to do with it.

Awesome, what did that truck have in it?

Last time I drove it, 60 front, high steer, 4.10s welded, 14ff rear, welded, 49"irocs on recentered H1 rims, 3 link front on coils, a ton of tube work, interior and exterior, and tube front fenders, and my custom built dual transmission setup running 2 4 speeds into a twin stick np205. 400:1 crawl, and with the 4.10s it spun about 1200rpms at 60mph. Tore it down shortly after I grenaded a pinion in the 14 bolt so I could put 4 wheel steering and 5 ton rockwells underit, and got busy with my (at the time) new shop, and shit canned it.
Still got all the parts, so one day I'll rebuilt it with a fresh body.
