buying bolts in bulk

......I did that and it came in a tube that I could barely snap to get it into the dumpster.

 I still have a tube from one of my shipments. Had ordered a couple 5 foot sticks of acetal tube & rod and they put them in this 6" diameter 7 foot long heavy walled tube. Talk about overkill :)

That is why I just drive over (10 minutes from my office) and do a will-call. The shipping charge on a few sticks of delrin and some threaded rod is just crazy.

weird...my local place back home has a $10 card minimum. I have trouble filling it up if that means anythin to ya

Yeah, Monday I ordered a 4ft stick of 1/4" Delrin rod and a pack of 25 4mm set screws......yesterday I got it. It was shipped in a large, heavy duty box, around 8"x8"x50". This box was the heavy walled cardboard. It weighed 10x more than the items in it.

Heading over to McMaster at lunch-time to pickup an order of black and white delrin rod for links, threaded M4 rod, and some precision washers (For fine tuning link lenght based on ride height.) I think that they know my name in "will-call". I burned thru 5 feet of delrin just this week...and somehow ran out of black.

Locally we have McFadden-Dales hardware. Its a godsend. Anything you could want and you pick your own stuff so you can browse the isles and buy just 1 of something if you wanted. Standard or Metric, Stainless or Hardened, from stainless tubing to cold rolled steel rods, piano wire and raw stock in alum, brass, steel and hardened steel.

....and you get 20% off if you buy more than one box of 100 fasteners. "thumbsup"

Oh, hell yeah...we've got a McFadden here too. It's like a grown up toy store. You go into that place maybe looking for one or two things and end up spending an hour in there just looking around...and then leave with about 5 things.

Great thread....I was just in the Fastenal store today in town.

I have thread pitch question. The in-store 3M-10mm socket head cap said COURSE THREAD. When I went online....it says thread size .50.

Is this the same thread size as you'll find pre-tapped in links for AX-10's?

Yep - Fastenal and McMaster only way to go for project level volumes of screws.

Wife just saw a $75 charge on the Stampede Project CC card for what would have cost $200-300 at a hobby show. What can I say I enjoy a lot of screws. "thumbsup"

I'll use the local Fastenal when I can wait for an order to arrive because they just don't stock anything in metric and the Grainger store doesn't deal with much metric either. I do have a great local resource for anyone who lives in Baltimore, it's called Maryland Metrics. You can walk in and do a will-call and get any quantity of anything that you need. The prices are in line with McMaster.

i hada quick ?, i am lookin at buyin a screw kit from rcscrewz.com and was wondering if the kit for the ax-10 and scx-10 include the same things? thanks

yeah, their gonna be the same selection of screws/nuts/and bolts for both.

There are some differences in the kits. Just get the one that you need. They differ by only $2 so one does have more in it than the other.

I still like Boltdepot.com I got 1000 m3 nylock nuts, 1000 m3 washers, M3x25, M3x12, 100 M4 nylock, and 100 M5 nylock and it was around $40 shipped. this was about 8 months ago. I'm going to have to make another order for the bolts soon.

What would be real nice, is if someone would have the heart to put together a list of nuts, bolts and washers that would be a good starter set for those of us who wouldn't know what to buy other than an a model specific RCSrewz kit. It would be nice to have a supply of misc nuts and screws laying around. But at the same time I wouldn't want a 1000 of each.

My comapny has an account with fastenal so we get a big price break on everything. Needless to say I get nuts and bolts from them. But they do have to order them evertime.
