Can a broken / separated winding be resoldered?

I did a search first and did not find the answer to this specific question. I have two different motors that have broken the winding and seized the motor. One is a 18T Trinity motor for a RC18 and the other is a Integy 55T that was in my AX-10 crawler.

The winding itself literally separated and wrapped itself around the rotor/commutator seizing the motor. Can the copper wire be resoldered to itself? Is it worth even trying to fix them? Or are they junk and should be tossed in the trash? What causes this type of failure?

The Trinity motor I purchased new and had very little use. The Integy motor just came in a trade so I have no idea of how old it is. (I don't hold the quality of Integy products in high regard anyway.)Thank you in advance for any help.

Why not just rewind the motor?

I do not have a lot of experience with electric motors. The majority of my rc experience comes from racing nitro cars and trucks. To me, I think I would rather buy another motor. I just wanted to know if there was a quick fix in order to use the motor in my sons AX-10. I am not trying to go comp, just a decent basher for the most part.

Well, I wouldn't try soldering the windings back together. Who knows what could happen. INsulation might melt, shorts might happen, etc.

The wire cannot just be soldered back together. You would have to rewind the motor in order to reuse it. The wire is wound tightly, so if it becomes separated it is no longer tight and will not work properly. JohnRobHolmes did a writeup on how to wind a motor and it really is not hard. It just takes patience. The wire can be found at radio shack.

I did a search before I wrote this thread and I read that entire article. So I understand that it can be fixed. What I wanted to know was if I could bypass that and just solder the copper directly back in place. Thank you for answering the question and informing me that I cannot quick fix it. To me, I would rather buy a new motor, of better quality, than to try and fix this one by hand.

Do both, get a new motor to run and try your hand at rewinding. It really isn't hard and you will probably learn a bit about motors.
