I just had an epiphany...
Besides these fast and furious movies that just seem to cause accidents...
What media exposure does car culture have to reach out to the youth of today???
Sure they can watch some od these classics, and some do. But to the vast majority... What is there???
Nothing is making cars COOL for the present and future young men of the world. Besides vin diesel and the rock.

Huh. That sucks.

Red Robin was delicious though lol

Yeah, it's all ricers and pasta rockets now. Oh, except for "that old black car" in F&F 1.

Drive past a high school parking lot now. Four doors and mini SUVs. Snore.

Glad you enjoyed Red Robin. I had frozen pizza :(

Mike Flea had Rat Patrol up there...man, I loved that Jeep! Victor Newman and all ;-)

Of course! But the TV show was better than the movie (except for the fact that Jessica Simpson was in her prime) so I left it off. Lots of good car TV shows.

Agreed, the movie and the TV show are very different (I like both though) but the General Lee is and will always be the main star.

A little trivia on the Cannonball Run van:
The ambulance used in the movie, is the actual ambulance that Hal Needham and Brock Yates souped up and raced in the real Cannonball Run. It had been modified with a HEMI engine, that made it go up to one hundred forty-five miles per hour (two hundred thirty-three kilometers per hour), and was equipped with four gas filler holes, so that the required ninety gallons (three hundred forty-one liters) could be pumped quickly. Needham and Yates didn't win the race (the transmission blew in Palm Springs, California) so Needham kept it in storage for several years, until the time came to make this film.

145 in a 1981 van is no joke....must have been a hell of a hemi in there.

Love this thread! might I add a more recent film?

Yeah yeah YEAH!!!
Baby Driver was great!

Now I'm watching my Saturday morning cartoons... WANGAN MIDNIGHT!
all 26 episodes are on YouTube subtitled.

Reminds me of a game I used to play that started on PlayStation 1... Shutoku battle!
Evolved over several years and by ps2 there was a 3rd version and even branched off to a touge version with drifting haha

The interwebs, especially Youtube, carculture is bigger than ever, man. "thumbsup"

There's a Jackie Chan movie with some fantastically entertaining driving, called "Who Am I?"

Wiki:

"The film also features an elaborate chase scene involving the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IV GSR and a pack of chasing BMW 3 series (E36), in which Jackie, Yuki, and Christine (in the Evolution) attempt to escape from their captors. Several memorable stunts in the Evolution IV were featured, including a spin parking manoeuvre, market chase, and flipping the car onto its side and roof. In the making-of documentary, the team outlined the numerous Lancer Evolutions that were used for the entire sequence due to the harsh physical challenges presented by the stunts. The use of the Evolution IV was consistent with the ongoing presence and sponsorship of Mitsubishi in Jackie Chan's films of that era."

Add that to the fact that he was in the Cannonball movies... What a cool person. Jackie Chan is incredible.

There is another lesser known jackie chan movie called Thunderbolt, where he is an actual racecar driver.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thunderbolt_(1995_film)

Jackie Chan brings back good memories... When I was 18 or 19 I got my wisdom teeth out. To keep me busy my mom asked what movies I wanted from blockbuster. Already loopy I said jackie chan! She said which one? I said ALL OF EM!!!
I must have watched like a dozen jackie chan movies over a couple days. Giggling the whole time...

Crazy when you think about.
All these car movies and TV shows were mostly from the same era.
From around early 70's to early 80's

Everybody back then loved cars.
Now they are just another electronic device in our lives, like the phone. Look back at pics in the 50's and 60's, everyone posed for pics with their cars whether they were stock or custom. They were proud of them.

We did and I still love every car I have had. I think mostly it is because the vast majority never bought a new car but a used one, fixed it and made it there own. You actually had to either learn or know what you are doing. Now it is just point and write a check. Though I wrenched on my MotoX bikes and handed my dad wrenches when he worked on his cars, My first car was given to me with a blown motor and trans. My dad was an ex GM and Mercury Marine mechanic so he walked me through, taught me what I was doing at each stage of the rebuild but did not once turn a wrench. After it was on the road I took a lot of prideful pics and so help you if you came near my ride.

One of my favorite movies growing up was Twister. Trucks, CB radios, action, I was all over it.

you two definitely get what im saying.
i was going to retire from the navy and teach high school auto shop, just to try and keep auto culture alive for the next generations. but all of the high schools are getting RID of auto shop. (Ramona i think still has one?)
auto shop was by far my favorite subject. Our teacher, Mr. siedschlag ("Mr. Z"), is an inspirational guy who is also a veteran.

plan B: keep doing IT stuff :(

this might be a stretch but i really like THREE batmobiles.
in no particular order:
