I've had some suspension issues with the D90 lately. The RC4WD dual stages didn't hold oil well and kept freezing up. Wasn't sure if fixing them was worth it so I went with Pro-Line's Scaler shocks which have worked awesome for me before. They let the D90 sit a little too high for my liking though. So then I tried Yeah Racing 80mm shocks but there was a quality control issue and they all leaked (the front pair leaked all oil overnight!). Even a shock rebuild kit with new spacers and o-rings didn't work. The shafts seemed to be too small in diameter. They're gone now. So now I'm thinking of RC4WD Ultimate Scale shocks (80mm) with the internal springs. I hope they work!

On a brighter note, I have some scale goodies on the way (new winch hook, shackles, windshield wipers, tires, and a big surprise for upfront).

Since my chassis is mildly disassembled (no shocks) I started playing with the steering. On the Gelande chassis the servo mount is directly over the tie rod, which puts the drag link at a weird outward angle (top view) either out in front or behind the tie rod. While browsing through D90 builds I came across IKke's D90 build on Scale4x4rc. His solution was to drill new servo mount holes farther forward, which places the drag link directly over the tie rod.

I decided to give it a go. And now it's a lot better!
In the old position you can imagine how the horn would hit the diff or place the drag link way out front if flipped.

Also got another idea on Scale4x4rc from wyoming's D90 build. He used the Tamiya plastic bumper over the metal one for more details and also added rubber flaps. I tried the same thing with my Blitz mud flaps. I also added a little ball stud on the hitch receiver.

I used three Axial M1.5 screws to hold on each mud flap.

Sadly, the D90 is sitting on the shelf right now. After trying the RC4WD ultimate scale shocks and having them leak all over the place, I'm settling on Axial's aluminum shocks (61-90mm). I think they will do the job for now and they should arrive by Christmas Eve along with the surprise. So I will hopefully get to drive it again before the year is over.

_os_ib_y! You'll have to wait and see. My other parts are here though; shackles from Stefan, winch hook from MadDogRC, wipers, and Dirt Grabbers. Can't wait to put it all together! :mrgreen:

Those are HPI Blitz short course flaps. I've run these on some short course trucks and they're perfect for the D90's...

Thanks! I figured the new steering would help, but without the shocks on it's hard to tell. I might have to change things around again.

That's right. Team Associated SC10 mud flaps would work perfectly too. "thumbsup"

The other day I tried using some Plastidip to see if I liked black fender flares. I thought it might just peel right off, because I've used it on so many other things like my car and it always came right off. Not so on this paint. So instead of repainting the flares I figured now is the best time to repaint the whole body. I've been wanting to since I got it anyway.

The body is completely stripped down of accessories now and is ready for sanding. I hope to have the new color and clear on by the end of next week. Stay tuned for updates! "thumbsup"

Merry Christmas everyone!

Got my present :mrgreen: It's from Trenton (MG200). Just need to fix the fit, mount, and then it's off to powercoat next week.

Stefan's shackles and MadDogRC's winch hook. The King Kong stuff is a little too big for the D90.

Also just got Axial Aluminum shocks yesterday. Once they're on I'll finally have a drivable chassis again!

Just a small update.

I picked up the bumper from the paint shop yesterday and it looks great! It makes Trenton's work look even better! Today I was able to mount it and add it's accessories. I also got RC4WD's ARB diff cover, which came with some ARB decals, but they're on a clear sticker. I want to figure out how to make their background white before I add them.

The body is sanded and waiting for paint. Hopefully I can do that really soon.

Thanks Trenton! I got the ARB decal finished. Just needed a plain white decal behind it for the background.

I also finished filling the holes from the roof rack and spare tail light. Backed each hole with some styrene for strength, then filled it with Bondo putty. Next step is primer, and then I can finally lay some color on it! :mrgreen:

Haven't checked here in some time. You are really making great progress here. Are you going to bash this thing on the rocks. It looks too good for that.

Hey Wes! Thanks! It's going really slow but steady I guess. I'm sure after the first scratch I'll go hard on it lol I can't wait for the next comp season! Will you have a Class 1 rig soon?
