CC Sidewinder 3 & 4 question

I was reading the specs on the Sidewinder 3 & 4 and noticed the specs say the BEC is set at 5.0 volts fixed, 2 amps. Is that correct? Do you need to add an external BEC to run 6v? I was looking at the Sidewinder 4 for a new build and 5v would be a deal breaker for me.

Yes, sadly...

I went with the SW4 for my Enduro because outrunners are supposed to run very well on it, but was horrified when I saw that the internal BEC was only 2A. I put a CC 10A BEC in, and it has worked out, but the install isn't as clean as I would have liked it to be.

Yep, revolver v2/v2.1 worked great with the sw4 but had to run a BEC with my savox for decent steering. Cleaned things up when I snagged a direct powered HH servo though!

The Sidewinder are intended to be low cost speed controllers. They has a fairly weak BEC to save on parts to keep the cost low. They are really intended to be a drop in replacement for an RTR brushed setup in something like a Traxxas Slash. The BEC is powerful enough to run a RTR servo, so it is strong enough to meet the intended use case for the product. We have plans to refresh all of the Mamba line to have cryo drive, but it's going to take some time for us to get through all of the products.
