I just started getting into RC's about a month ago and bought a traxxas rustler for my first car and then started learning more about them and found out about the rc crawling world. Before I was seriously injured in Afghanistan I worked on, built and drove full size rock crawlers so I thought this would be right up my ally since I'm now in a wheel chair and can't really work on crawlers anymore. So I bought my first crawler, a Vermont creeper, and I love it... It's stock and I want to start upgrading it and run a custom chassis! My wife and I just had a baby plus I have my rehab everyday so I don't have a lot of time to search through the threads to find the answers for my questions so if you guys could help me out some and bear with my repeating others questions I'd greatly appreciate it.

Ill be posting pictures as soon as I can figure out how! And I'll post what I'm running electronics wise soon!

What's the difference
Dang if I know.

I know "clocking the axles" raises the axle input relative to the ground, this can help clear a hang-up when doing break-overs. If you go too far, you can create bad binds in the driveshaft angles.

Also, if you clock the axle, you REALLY want to clock the C-hubs (AKA CHUBS) to keep the steering angle reasonable. You ALWAYS want the top of the steering axis to be behind the axle, not on top, not in front.8)

My son runs/ran a Creeper, I follow this thread. I don't know about "axle flipping".
Maybe you can provide additional info or someone else can expand on this.

Not trying to be a PITA, just making sure I understand your question.8)

welcome man and thank you for your service and sacrifice. feel free to ask all the questions you want, i will make i help all i can. check out my bronco build for custom chassis ideas.

Thanks doc where are your photos at? Feel free to post anything on this thread it's just easiest for me to hop on this same one then try and float around I forget things easily with my traumatic brain injury so one thread is easy...

If clocking is what I think it is its where you change the angle of the axle for if you lift your vehicle so the drive shaft doesn't bind up.. Is that right?

Correct.

Viewed from the side, change link lengths so the axle input is no longer level. This gives some added driveshaft clearance.
But, 2 other things happen.
1-You can overdo it and start getting extreme angles in the driveshaft which can make it "notchy" as it turns.
2-You change the kingpin angle the wrong way. The top of the kingpin (the turning pivot point in the C-hub) is now forward of the axle centerline. This is poor for turning, especially on sidehills. You now need to clock the C-hubs (if you can) so the kingpin angle is correct again.

"Fix one thing, mess up another".

Welcome to the sickness! It's where I started as well an ran the piss out of my creeper. It's a very capable rig! Pics are great for a build and the best way to get return help.
Ur links is the way to get the right "castor" on ur axle. As far as "clocking" ur chubs, with the creeper, you can't.. without mods.. which isn't needed if you set ur castor right. To do that, just get ur servo level with the ground by moving ur front upper links back in the chassis..
There are a lot cheap easy mods to do to the stock creeper to make it comp ready and to just have fun.
As far as posting everything in ur thread, You will soon learn, thru reading, what threads help you the most an move you towards what you want. Rmdw T's and T's is where I got most of my reading from to start with an all other team drivers. Then put it all together in my thread.. I didn't use everything, so read, read, read.. take what ya want, leave the rest.
Photobucket for pics, click the "img" code an paste it here. Make sure to double space before an after each pic..

Chad I served two terms in afgan also my bro an cousin is still over seas. When on my first term my sqaud leader introduced me to the rc world with rc car action mags an I fell n love lol. I'm pretty new to crawln also but not to rc so neway I can help it'd b a pleasure
Troy I was wondering u was sayn to set the servo level as possible. I have been readn on anti squate an I'm under the impression that moving the uppers back n forth or up an down that it has different effects of anti squate?? Correct me if wrong nebody have been tryn to figure it out myself for a week with poor results. Lol. Thanks

Get the servo level.. ur limited to link movement depending on chassis.. there is a good diagram one the first 3 pages of Rmdw tips an tricks that shows squat an anti-squat.. with the xrv2 chassis, you can get ur uppers up in the air at the chassis an rear uppers low at the chassis or level with ur rear axle..

ok thanks im going to get the creeper out for a little bit then come back with some more pictures and videos and set up photobucket
