Challenger vs. Mustang vs. Camaro

Thats a 502! No way there would be a 302 in there:lol: Looks like a big block to me, I'm surprised you can't tell Stang:shock:
Yes its a BIG BLOCK but by no means a crate 502 it started out life as a NHRA Prostock engine and has since been detuned to about 950 hp to make it a driver LOL we changed the cam and intake to calm it down and then put on 300 shot of NOS but it didnt need it.
Yes i to like the looks of the new Challenger but i think i would rip it apart and put in a old school hemi in it but thats just me

sweet jesus. thats sick.

thats the advantage to a carb style top mount intake, you can spray that much. on our front mount intakes we max out at 200 shot before we have to go direct port to prevent uneven distrubution/ leaning and going boom.

I don't know Binary, you give me $40k and I will build a 68 GTX that will hold it's own with those three:lol: I would have to go with the 66 Impala myself JIA8)

If you want a real GTX, 40k will get you a decent project car. But you can put that much into a Belvedere or Satellite and have pretty much the same thing, if you do all the work yourself.

If you want a track car, get an Elise and embarrass all your buddies.

True dat. Power to weight is what gets it done. My Mk1 Mini with 65hp is still the most fun I've had in a street-legal car.

have the best of both worlds old car with new up to date suspension/ brakes and big hp engine thats how i roll LOL

Yes please "thumbsup"

I understand trying to recapture the image, but the new ones ain't real muscle cars. Vinyl bench seats, hand-crank windows, radio and heater delete, dog-dish hubcaps and wall-to-wall motor under the hood made the OG muscle cars legendary, even though they wouldn't steer their way out of a paper bag. Hell nothing did in the 60's. But stripping out all the frills kept the price down to where a young punk could afford one.

And the new Camaro is still fawkin ugly.

i really aint had a chance to jump back in today, since my wife has been glued to the keyboard... I managed to pry her fingers away long enough for me to stop back in....

Here are some food for thought about all three...
The challenger no doubt is the hands down retro looker of the bunch. With that much power and torque it outta move stupid fast, but it doesnt.

The Camaro looks pretty good, can't say GM nailed like chrysler did, but it still looks good, until you look at the rear end... Now thats a an ass only GM could love. It has that killer IRS that every one of these cars including the mustang should have.

The Mustang, sorry but its looks are dated (even the updated new model looks dated) And its short on power. Granted its just a hair tick slower than the Camaro, and faster than the Challenger. The worst thing about the mustang tho has to be the solid rear axle. Jesus Ford, get over it and move into the new generation.

The V-6 Camaro with 306 hp is slower than the V-6 mustang, and the V-6 Challenger is again bringin up the rear as the slowest of the three. I dont get it. Yes, they're moving more weight, but 2-300 lbs aint that much more for the power advantage these cars have.

It seems to me that all that extra power is useless if you have to gear it so high so you get the fuel economy at the expense of actually being able to use the power.

Oh, and just in case anyone wanted to know, Ford refused to make a Mustang GT available to any magazine for comparison testing against Hyundai's new Genises. They didnt mind comparing it to the Challenger of the Camaro, but not the little korean upstart... WTF Ford?

Sick!

when you spend nearly every fri, sat, or sunday on a track, spent thousands in specific suspenion, safety, tire, and power upgrades to go straight or carve corners i consider that a track car. it was built for racing. because funds dont allow the purchase of another car to go to work in, does not make it any less of a track car.

ill pass on the elise. i like my full size american ground shaker. i like pulling up next to folks and watching THEIR mirrors and windows shake:lol:
(the elises do kick ass though, no one can down play power to weight and low CG, and a decent stock suspention. they kick ass on games too)"thumbsup"

The three cars tested are not track cars. That's what I was saying.

Throw enough money at any car and it'll carve corners.

wow and to think my Xterrra does a whole 62.03 seconds in the quarter mile, and the challenger...
oh wait...
hahahaa !!! 1bad, you got the noobish colors "thumbsup"
thats the one i want

Just for grins, I'd still love to take a Cherokee Briarwood (the fake woody style:lol:) and set it up for road course use.....hey, if the Archer brothers can dominate a SCCA racing class with 2wd SFA Comanches, why not try and do the same with a 4x4 XJ"thumbsup":ror:

When haven't the Archer's dominated SCCA road racing? They kicked ass years ago when I was involved with SCCA Escort World Challenge SP class...

What gave it away... the 502 emblem on the fender????:flipoff:

Or maybe it was the "302" statement!:flipoff::lol: Can't see ANYONE with a Camaro that nice putting a Ford motor in it:lmao:And I drive a Ford with a 302 in it:lol: And to tell you the truth I can read that emblem in the pict?

Since everyone is "picking" out what they would have/get I'll play;-) I love the 60/70's muscle cars! But I'm going to have to go with the Buick Grand National"thumbsup" Stupid fast, killer looks, not bad on gas, daily driver, easy to mod/get parts. Street or strip it was-is a sick car! Anyone remember the GM Cyclone and Typhoon? Again, very fast back then and would still hold it's own today! All wheel drive, turbo, looked good, good gas mileage....

Going to the 60's it would have to be a 67 Camaro, the Year One 67 Camaro!

70's... It would be the 1970 Hemi Cuda, 426! 4 Speed. Funny thing is that it would run a 13.10 sec 1/4 at 107.1MPH, slower than the new Camaro:lol: And the Hemi was making 425hp;-)

And then the 97 Viper, 12.05 1/4 @116MPH. 450HP. 6 speed, V-10"thumbsup" Was the fastest American produced car for a while! Not a great DD though:ror:

Problem with the elephants is getting enough traction. Remember, those things were rolling on E70-15's, hard as rocks with a 5-inch contact patch. Even aired down there's no way to get a decent launch without tossing a pair of slicks on.

All the manufacturers played the "insurance hp" game. The street Hemis were closer to 500hp, they just stopped counting at 425. The 440 wedge wasn't far behind, and doesn't get the respect it deserves. The Hemis were maintenance queens, while the 440 would just keep pluggin' on.

Throw on some headers and a pair of slicks, or even a decent drag radial, and the Cuda would run high 11's til it ran out of gas.

The first-gen Viper was just evil. Fun, but evil.

Wow you'd love Michigan, they've been at dealers and around town (both manufacturer cars and owners) all April.

well it was awesome to see in person. very cool car. was a 2SS pretty loaded, no RS package though. motor looked alot easier to work on, ie more room around it. especially for doing things like headers, plugs, etc.
the door panels, pass side dash, and b-pillar panels looks allitle plain/cheesy. the retro gauge pod on the consol looked alot better in person. as did the rear end it looks good in person, but this one had the mini spoiler that helped. didnt care for the randomly placed backup lights though. true duals looked nice. need to rip out the 4 cats, 2 resonators, and gigatic mufflers though. pipes were run under the IRS and will make exhaust swaps a sinch. sounded good for stock. the button layout in the interior was all over the place, but nice. im just used to owning a 93 and 00 Camaro as my last two vehicles which have near identical interiors so its just different not bad. although the door lock switch being on the radio was odd. seemed much more spacious, even in the back than mine. seats looked and felt amazing. had some kind of Boston aucustics stereo in it.
i found myself already gonig over the car looking for things to rip out for weight reduction. i hope the TC it had was optional. and dont these these things have launch control too? i hope thats not standard either. i got lucky with my SS it didnt have TC.

just made my itch even worse! as i was leaveing i petted the LS3 and said good bye :lmao:
they had a nice 68 there as well you can see in the background

theyve got 14 on preorder. it just so happens, the guy at the top of the list is one of my clients, he ordered his 18yo daughter a Black SS for her b-day. hmm....sounds like a win-win situation to me!

im awaiting the 2011 ;) that Z28 is gonna be sick if it ever sees the light of day.

One thing I've learned is that you are best off waiting a year or two for all the bugs and running changes to get worked out. Especially on a complete redesign.
