Chassis test needed/>?

Nope I'm redoing my lower link mounts on my axles to try and use the holes in the chassis so I don't have to drill more .

Chassis Received

My chassis just got here, and it looks effin' BURLY! Just right for the Super crawler it's going on.

Even got a couple of Vertical Smile stickers with it. Nice touch

That was quick. I will ship USPS Priority from now on and it was cheeper than UPS.

Off first glance do you see any potential short comings? I think my concern is the steel sheet metal used for the mounting plates. Shafties may revel this if it is a problem. It does however feel sturdy enough to hold up in the long run. would like your opinions.

I may make a small chassis that will mor adiquate for a 2.2 build. Maybe I will make a tester of a smaller chassis. Anyone with size suggestions? I was thinking around 5" long??

Does the skid look and feel like it can handle bashings? I allready used a hammer on it to help confrom it to its size but I didn't put all I had into it. (I could damage it if I really wanted to)

Can not wait to see the builds. I'm actually getting anxious. And I keep checking the treads to see if there is any progress. Oh well. Patients is a vertu right.
THanks all
OH and I appreciate others who have suggested my chassis to others allready.

I wouldn't make the chassis any smaller. It is about the same length as my SW2 chassis. For 2.2 maybe try running stock standoffs and a hole for the pede tranny to stick through. With the emaxx tranny in mine it is way top heavy so going to play with it before I post some pics. I had my all thread for my links disappear thanks to my son and daughter so I have to wait till I get a day off to hit a store.

Comparison of a small VS chassis. If I decided to try it out.
It would be 6" long X 3.75" tall. The original is 9" longX 4.25 high.
That would make it pretty small so I'm not sure if I want to make it. OPINIONS?
Mounting plate would be around 3" long +/-

Got my vertical taco, I mean vertical smile yesterday.
Will have to cut the side for a laydown stampede. Is this cool Double J?
Love the address on the box:

Made some progress on mine tonight. Got the shocks mounted, as well as one set of links made and mounted.

I will be starting a new thread for this truck with the next update.;-)

do what needs to be done:)

looking good guys. keep us updated.

cool, I started on mine took a pic but photobucket is giving me shizz right now.
gonna have about a 13" wb, will shorten to 12.5 when I get less lazy.
Chassis is beefy for a tlt, I like it.
Only issue I see is the lower mount being a little too thin, but we will see.
I have been wrong, once!
Kevin

I like the way they are looking.
Are you guys going to do a build thread in other areas? (i.e. clod, maxx etc.) If you do send me the link so I can follow.

Only issue I see is the lower mount being a little too thin, but we will see.

This was my only issue that I was worried about (as mentioned earlier) but I used what I had. If it becomes an issue then I will do an aluminum plate that will fit togeather like a puzzle. It will make the cost come up more but I think it will still be an affordable option to those who don't have the money. I want to keep the price down as much as possible. I may have found a less expensive way to make clod type axles also but that is still in the design stage.

I started 4-linking it last night after I finished the big rig. I'll put pics in General since we don't have a "Kyosho POS trucks that were given to me" section.

The black base plate's going to interfere with the tranny, so it came out. The skid is pretty clever the way it hooks in there.

I'm going to have to drill a few extra holes in it to mount the tranny, but I'll try to use DoubleJ's link mount holes to see if they work. They probably will, but a few more options would be nice, especially for the uppers.

, but a few more options would be nice, especially for the uppers.
I can drill holes all over the chassis and make a couple extra for the bottom links also. Since this is a test let me know what will help make building this as universal as possible.

The black base plate's going to interfere with the tranny
Should I make it shorter? Lower?

The skid is pretty clever the way it hooks in there.
I'm pretty proud of that one. And it will stay in there no matter how it gets trashed as the impact will make it more "springy". The only problem that I could see happening is if its taken on and off constantly, then it will get weeker but should still work.

How do the stickers look. Should I change the design or just go with it. I think they will look good on a body. But since they have clear backing they change their color a little. When I placed them on the black mounting plate they became hard to see, but still visible.
DESTROYER = Did you receive your stickers in the mail yet? I didn't have them printed up when I sent yours out the door.

Let me hear all of the positive and negetives on this chassis.

ONE other thing. How does the shock mounting area look like it will work out?

I will start a new thread in the Clod section with the next update.

I hope to finish the lower link shock mounts tonight (the plasic clamps were just for mock-up) and maybe even get it into roller if I have time.

Additonal shock holes would be a nice touch for the production version- one hole kinda limits the tune-ability of the ride height/articulation.

As of yesterday evening, no. I will check when I get home.

This is the set up I might do with a 2.2 (shorter version of the "VS").
Would a set up simmilar to this work for more options on the shock set up? And add holes all over the place. :?:
VS222.jpg

The bottom is supposed to say 4-link, not shock.:|

My tranny's similar to a Maxx, with a big belly hanging down the bottom, so I took the black base plate out altogether. I'll hang the electronics on the side plates and make L-brackets for the tranny. Using the baseplate would mean making standoffs, and then the tranny would be a foot and a half in the air.

Leave the plate in there for production. It's better to have it and not use it, than to not have it and wish you did.

I will start a thread in the tlt section. I am going to try and make the mounting plate work, to help out your test. If it holds up then you could leave it in the production ones.
The mounting plate could be lower to lower cog, but we will see.
I also ran out of links, so my build will have to wait until tommorrow night.
Wife is leaving town with the kids, so its eating cheetos and beatin off time boys.
Oh yeah also building VERTICAL SMILE 2.2 STYLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey that ryhmes.
