Chessmasters Viper

Here is the picture. It might need cut. I have gone probably 3 hours of driving. Whats the easiest way to do it. I dont think my hobby shop does it because they real lack at everything else. What is the best one to get?

That could use a turn, a Team Cobra lathe is the best if you can find one. I have a cheapy XIPP that i replaced the motor on and gets the job done.

Seriously, people cut the com every half an hour of run time?

Eee Pee does every 20 mins iirc, so does EddieO  it is the "recommended" time. Very foew of us follow recommendations though.

I would certainly turn the comm pictured above though.

That could use a turn, you need a comm lathe, a friend with a comm lathe, or an LHS that sells comm cut service. The first 2 are much better options.

I would certainly turn the comm pictured above though.

What is the best com lathe to get at a good price?

Holy shit I have never cut one of my motors and never knew it needed to be or was recommended to be done that often.

You learn something new every day, I have just learned that there is more shit that I need to do to my crawlers to keep them at their best:x

Give them a fresh turn and go drive, it will have that holy shit POWER! feeling again.

I really like it with the windows cut out"thumbsup" The braided sleaving was hard to find, I looked everywhere. No one in town had it so I bought it here on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Fire...at_Parts_Accessories_Gear&hash=item3f08c9157b.
Its an amazing price $5 for 10 feet shipped:mrgreen:

Thanks a lot for the info Chess. I just got some ordered. I hope you get your motor situation figured out soon. If you PM'ed John you might wanna try emailing him instead. Have a great day.

Thanks for all the help. i turned the motor and it seemed to help but the front is still acting up. forwards its fine and in reverse its close. No VP goodies in the mail though:evil:

When we raced oval with brushed motors, my Thursday night ritual(EVERY thurs) was cutting 3 motors and replacing brushes. Then run them all on the dyno. We really love brushless oval now. No maintenance. Kinda cool to do it again for this side of the hobby."thumbsup""thumbsup"

I received my VP goodies and took some pictures of the rig, There posser shots"thumbsup"

I love the orange and almost completly decked out with VP stuff:mrgreen:

What are the benefits on running imboard links in the rear? I some people doing it on the viper chassis. Also what are the benefits of running straight links in the rear with the Vp rear link mount?

Straight links vs bent links is just personal preference. Some bend for clearance, some for appearance, some because they measured wrong and ordered Ti that was too long so the bends bring things into spec (my new berg build front uppers)

I have the front and rear both inboarded, had it that way on the XR too. Articulation is smoother, less to get hung up on, and do to the skid design, you still have triangulation "thumbsup"

Here are pics from my berg rebuild with the new inboarded upper links:

Thanks for the info. I spent last night working and got the links imboarded. It deffinantly has better articulation"thumbsup" I also FINALLY figured out what the problem was with the front motor. Well it wasn't even the motor, it was the esc. I switched the motors and the problem still occured with the front esc. I recalibrated the escs and loaded new software and bang it fixed the problem. Its a big sigh of relief because I have a comp next weeked. This will be my first comp ever so Im excitted. Also thanks for all the help trying to figure out the problem.

Not sure what you figured out for turning your motor comm, but you mentioned you had access to a machining lathe (at the comp today)...that'll work (so i've been told), also our LHS High Desert Raceplace has a motor lathe, i believe andy charges $10 per motor to cut the comm, clean it, and replace brushes.

Yeah i turned them on the lathe and the that helped. The main problem was the esc needed re programed. Im thinking of changing tires. What do you run and have any of you guys tried the losi boss claws? Also what foams are you running?

Most people here locally run rovers (not sure on foams). But i'm liking the sedona's alittle better, with just stock foams.

As for boss claws i was running them for awhile, but they didn't seem to stick as good as tires with big lugs, mostly because i think all our stuff has lots of sharp edges and our traction area's are real rough, to big to fit in between the little lugs. But they did better than most on the slick rock. I'm in the process now of snipping off every other row of lugs, just playing with them they seem alot better than before so i may give em another try.
