I've been searching for some chrome paint to put on the TLT diffs on my crawler. I went to dome depot, and hobbytown and got some "chrome" spraypaint but it dries silver. Im looking for the colors like what the TLT-axle cases look like, and most chrome rims. I know chrome dont get ya' home, but it sure looks good! Can anyone lead me into the correct direction?

Thankyou!

Yup, Spazstix mirror chrome is about as chrome as it gets. You can get it in aerosole cans for about 10 bucks or airbrush for about 6 bucks. Alclad also makes a nice chrome.

Spazstix and Alclad both have chrome.

The best way to apply it is on a black base.

ANY imperfection in the surface is going to stand out like DJ at the Nats.

When I shoot chrome on plastic I always lay down a black base coat, then several coats of clear...then wet sand...then apply chrome...followed by more clear.

Any paint is going to chip, scratch or flake, thats the way it is.

painting plastic you are never gonna get a mirror finish with paint. The only reason the spazstix and stuff comes out as a chrome finish when paiting in a lexan body is because the body itself is the clear coat. (So imagine like .40/.60 thick of clear coat). Only way to get a mirror chrome finish is to have it dipped or like stated above, just buy the chrome parts from tower.

You can paint a finish that is like a mirror if the underlying surface is smooth.

And 80 coats of clear? lol.. I havnt been able to get anything close to a mirror'ed finish and Ive done the wet sanding and all that.. Mine always ends up looking like a polished brushed aluminum..lol.

They sell stock axle housings that are chrome dipped they look good and pry would be your best route to make it last in my opinion

Don't sand, buff, or roughen up the surface for either of the two chrome paints, it will show every imperfection. For all other colors when painting lexan you can so it will help the paint stick better.
