Codyboy's 46 Powerwagon Flatbed.

Ernie, unreal work as always, what are you doing to my eyes making those portals... Major want!!!

Thanks for the kind words, and sorry about hurting your eyes! :lmao:

Finishing up some orders so had time to work on this old boy a little more. I had some thought changes on how to use my portal gear reduction (2.3:1). Borrowed this idea from Toyzuki and chino63. Dean has building skills that are way above my level, so this isn't close to being as clean as his. ;-) I wish I had a mill, but that isn't a option in my future $$$$.
The transfer case gearing is 25T x 12t X 21T 32p pinions. So a small overdive to the front. "thumbsup"

This is the bottom of the case, I used 3mm brass threaded sleeves to strengthen the mounting.

So in my test fitting stage the first challenge was the drive shaft angle from the spur shaft was way to steep! I was trying to mount the t-case as low as I could. So I used this challenge to work a electronics and battery mount into the design. No picks of that but used a recycled alum tray out of a PC tower. Love to repurpose! 8)

Next came the motor forward mount with motor as low as I could get it. This idea I borrowed from Toyzuki's design. I used a ascender top shaft for the spur/drive shaft and a ascender motor plate.

I use three 5X11X4 bearings to support the spur shaft.

Motor plate is mounted to alum Boom racing front shock mounts.

This shows the mock up bearing holder/shaft support on the back side of the plate.

Motor position in reference to the frame. I may have been able to get it a little lower, but at full compression I only have about 1/8" between it and panhard link.

Battery and all electronics mounted to balance weight.

So I'm still thinking about using the ascender cage to make my flat bead, and making a tilting mount for the cage and body for easy access to batteries and electronics.

For those wondering, yes you do not see a tranny. Why? Because I'm getting my gear reduction from the T-case and Portals. ;-)
With a little testing to see if my gear math is right I had no torque twist. That is the reason for the portals, (2.3:1 reduction at the axle output)! And the other reason is I just wanted to see if I could do it!!! Thanks again to chino63 and Toyzuki for the great innovation in your design, couldn't have done it with out you! "thumbsup"
Finally for those wondering, with spur and pinion tuning I will have a final drive close to the ascender out put to the wheels. 8) 46.2:1

Thanks for looking.

I don't know weather to be amazed at the work and skill put into this rig or to just continue to set here and be jealous. Think I'll stay jealous for a little longer :ror:
Great work by the way!!!!!!

Hey, I paid my dues working for our favorite Uncle. Now it's time to have fun!
Your time will come grasshopper! "thumbsup" Are you guys having fun in Florida?

Hey Jon, I think I will take that as a compliment. I geared it down a little today and ran it with out a body a little on my rock pile, and it seamed to do pretty good. I need to work on the shocks a little bit but it crawls very nice. Need to start on the body and flat bed next. We hacked a GT3C today so now it has its own radio. ;-)
When your ready to start work on your truck sliders let me know. I will try to answer your PM tomorrow. ;-)

I would really like to see this at the proline event in cali coming up. No pressure! lol and no promise....
Hmmm...
Build off challenge?
If gcm would just restock the darned leaf kits! (Thats reeeeeally holding up progress on mine!)

Killer work as always! You know how i feel about candy root beer! ;)
Truly awesome how you designed and built your own gearing. And the bumper with winch and grill is amazingly functional and beefy!

May 19th is just around the corner, friend! Just saying! ;)

Ok Buddy, you are on!! ;-)
Thanks for the kind words Chris, Marcia and I are checking into the dates to see if we can make it work! I worked on tuning my TRX4 shocks today. I'm still working out a few bugs, but getting there. "thumbsup" Now if I can make it all the way from Oregon I want to plan on seeing you guys there.

Just a little teaser update on flatbed and body. ;-)

If you have followed my builds you know that I like to repurpose old and scrap supplies. I use to sell a lot of matted and framed photos. So going through the shop looking for flatbed building material. (I built a flatbed last year out of SS and steel channel and it is just a little heavy for my liking). Anyway I found some alum picture frame material and thought with a little work could be used to box the bed.

I decided to recycle a old K10 cage I have to build the truck bed. So started breaking it down and putting it back together. Oh and somewhere along the way I added a little paint to the OLD "46" body. On most of the paint jobs I found on my Google search were Two tone with 2 colors. On almost all trucks the main body color was a lighter color with finders black or a darker color. I wanted to use a Candy Rootbeer on this truck so I switch up the darks and light colors, painting the finders brilliant Yellow. I like to be different!!! Yah, I know you already new that.:mrgreen:

Ok, the flatbed is all boxed in and ready to mount back on the body.

I painted the flat plates from the K10 cage and put them back on. It was easier to recycle this cage into a flatbed than I thought it would be. Oh yes, and that is my helper Jordon, he isn't a kitty cat, but beside my Koi he is the only pet we have now.

I left the grill clear to show the radiator I'm making out of zip ties.

All for now, maybe more progress tomorrow. "thumbsup"

NICE! you know why i like that brown ;)
looks like i need to catch up, you are making some great progress young man!

That Bed and paint work looks excellent! Well done!

I like how you just topped the Ascender bed/cage and made it your own shape, I didn't even consider that when I did my flatbed. I cant wait to see this thing at Proline By the Fire!

This one was backed with just a mist of silver and then black. Thank you sir, and yes we are moving along. ;-)

Thanks Casey, it is a easy way to build a flatbed, and didn't add much weight at all. Yah, I think I'm going to by my ticket when I'm done here.
"thumbsup"

I couldn't resist, I did a few poser shots at the Koi pond.

And in the dry riverbed behind the shop.
