Converting Sketchup to dxf

Mind me asking what your using Sketchup for? I dabble in it but always find it a little limiting.

It's funny this comes up now, because I've always thought the same thing about Sketchup. Thought it was fun to play with, but never thought it was very useful. I just got the latest issue of Wood magazine, and there was an article in there about using Sketchup for woodworking. I thought I'd check into Sketchup again, and now there are some pretty good tutorials showing what I was missing before. I use Solidworks and GibbsCAM at work to make my parts, but pricewise, they aren't very practical for hobby use......unless you know the next Powerball numbers. I'm starting to use Sketchup for woodworking, and as I learn more I'll probably use it for other things as well.

Ecoli......I'd like to see what you've done with it.

I just used it for making up bolt on side plates for my MRC tubers. Found a laser cutter who not only doesn't charge a set-up fee, but took my sketchup file and converted it over to dxf for free "thumbsup" Anyways, it worked fine for my 2D drawing. I've never used AutoCAD or other programs, so I'm blissfully oblivious to what I might be missing

I've been playing more and more with Sketchup, and I'm finding it actually quite good for simple modelling of parts.

...Hopefully Google will add dynamics to it eventually - it has huge potential.

Thanks for the offer. I actually found a laser cutter who took my drawing and converted it over to dxf for me for free. They did a great job on the plates, much better than hand cutting/drilling :D!
