Crawler King Suspension Setup...

Hi guys.

Just wondering what everyone is using for their shocks and springs on their Crawler Kings??

I just got one, and after reading a lot about the dreadful torque twist, before I even ran it I threw a couple of preload spacers on the rear right shock to counteract it.

With just a 2000mah six cell NiMH, I didn't notice any torque twist with it set up this way.

This will be primarily a trail truck for me...no real crawling, just out slowly meandering around the woods.

Would it be best for me to go with a thicker shock oil?? Should I get different springs all around?? Or for a trail truck should I just do that preload on that right rear shock and then just have fun with the truck as it is??

Thanks!
Jeff

The first WK I got, I had great shocks, over the years, I had them set up various different ways, but on my second WK, and my CK, the shocks were crap from the get-go. All I run now on them are traxxas shocks with a rod end mod for the cap (1 with revo shocks and 1 with big bore shocks). My advice, 4 link it and get some decent shocks (length depending on what your goal for its stance) and go from there.

that said, if your stock shocks aren't leaking (which would be surprising to me) and you're ok with their performance, run the daylights out of them until you want/need something better. Kings are great trucks, but imho, need some tlc to get them there, it's somewhat of a crapshoot from my experiences which parts need replacing first.

I'd say if you are happy with it now as a trail truck, keep on running it. As you trail around with it and get more comfortable with its capabilities [and limitations] then come back and get some advice on upgrades. This truck will really shine with some upgrades and thats a lot of the fun of crawling!

traxxas shocks and the front mounted servo made mine a good trail truck. I put a few oz of weight in the front tires, cut the front of the battery box out (to clear the servo) and zip tied the battery in. I have not had any real issues with torque twist. I think getting the truck lower and the wheel weight cut that issue out.

Thanks guys.

I put the CKRC axle mount steering kit on tonight, and when putting that on I noticed how weakly sprung the entire thing was. So I had previously added some preload spacers to the right rear shock, and tonight I added some to all of the shocks.

The end result was really good. I like the way the truck feels in pretty much every aspect better now. It just feels more solid to me, and since I'm just using it as a trail truck, any tiny amount of articulation that I may have lost won't be an issue. I can still get 6" or more of articulation on every wheel, which is way more than I will ever need.

Thanks!
Jeff

I ordered some aluminum shocks off ebay for $8 a pair, i filled the front shocks to my liking with 10w-30 motor oil as they were too stiff from the factory, and the rears i left alone to help with the torque twist
