Crawling areas in Indiana

I do not want to have comp in Indiana for a National bid either, but guess what.....I will! You have to do what you have to do!:flipoff:

Location, location, location. Its what its all about. Brian and I being from Northern Indiana prefer to comp up in Michigan for the Nationals bids. its closer, plain and simple.

Most of the comps for tri-state are at least 4-5 hours away. Farthest comp up in michigan is 3 hours. Most are about 2.5 hours.

If there were more comp sites in Indiana that were closer to us, we'd definitely go that route instead. Indianapolis is a 3 1/4hr drive for me. I don't drive like a maniac either. I prefer to keep my license just the way it is. CLEAN! LOL!! Sure if I push the speed limits, i've made it as far south as Seymour in as little as 3 3/4 hours before. 90mph is a little risky though.
Anyways.... back on track now.

I'm surprised that there is not more locations around Muncie to crawl at. Geological theory suggests that there should be an abundance of natural rock around there. Exposed rock or riverbed rock should be pretty easy to come by there.
Can anyone near Muncie confirm this??

Damn, you guys are further from Indy than I thought you was...We had 3 qualifiers in Indianapolis this year and I wouldn't feel like driving 4 hours either :lmao:

But back in 2005 or 2006, we went up to Portland and put on an exhibit at the UROCK event...I never heard anything else about the place, but heard they went bankrupt or something. Anyone know if that location is still even up?

I've been checking out Portland tonight. The place where Uroc was held is no longer there. By the looks of the map and satellite images, there appears to be some type of huge quarry there and quite a bit of rock along the river banks. Could just be something else though. Ill be in Portland hunting in a few weeks. Ill check it out.

LMFAO @ Aaron.... What a smartass :lmao::lmao:

Nice spot Tim, do you know much about the water there? You know if it floods like Foto?

I live on near the other end of the lake from there. The lower falls go under each spring flood, the upper seldom go under. It the upper end of a flood control spillway of a creek pretty much so it seldom stays under long. Would be a great summer/fall comp spot. Good fishing too.

Some of the rox box guys trail run at the spillway at the other end of the lake also.

Raccon ( Cecil M Harden) and Monroe both have big rock at the spillways, but not natural.

I can tell you guys that there is nothing around Muncie. It is a dry hole also. There are rocks along the White River, nothing that you can crawl without taking a bath. There is the Mississinewa River to the north a piece, its the same way. No natural rock, just river rock that doesn't present any good crawling.

Also, the XPlex in Portland did go bankrupt. Or rather the guy that owned it did, he got divorced and his wife cleaned him out! Not sure whats there now, I haven't been there in a few years. All I know is what a buddy of mine told me, he worked for the guy a little bit.

Here are a few pics of Matter Park in Marion. I dont think its a great place for comps, but its not bad for just messing around. I think we might be able to do some small comps or practice comps. I need to check with Marion Park Services. Enjoy.

Mark, That place really does not look that bad. Just keep me the hell away from the water and I'll be fine!"thumbsup"

Cataract Falls

I went out to Cataract Falls and crawled a little with my kids. I think you can have a comp there. I'm planning to go back out there the 24th.

It's really simple to get to if you don't go to Lieber State Park first. The Park ranger will give you directions that take you down roads that for some reason I start to hear Banjo's playing.

Let me know if you go back the 24th ghostkid. I think I can go that day also, I can take you past the banjo's to the spillway pretty quick also. You wanna take 231 all the way threw clovertucky to the falls, the ranger probably sent you towards the old cataract general store to get there.

Clifty Falls State Park in southeastern IN. There are tons of trails, large and small rocks, and a huge creek. Very cool place to go for scalers and comp rigs alike.
