Custom 2.2 axles using Axial transmissions

subscribing. these are awesome. Makes my stealth axles look like poo poo.

Thanks, do you have a build thread? I wouldn't mind seeing them for some more ideas.

Anyone think a GD600 would work for a gear reduction? I've never used one, so I don't know. I used to see them used a lot when TXT's were popular, but I haven't seen any lately. They can have 3.8:1 with a 12 tooth pinion.

I got my new beadlocks in and I can't wait to mount them up, I think they look really cool.

More build pictures to come sometime tonight or tomorrow.

No build thread. I can snap you a pic and send it to ya. It is basically locked a-arms. I never finished the front axle, but yours have inspired me to start over."thumbsup" thanks, I think.........;-)

well alot of people didn't like the gd-600's because theyd flex causing the pinion to skip. i did use one once in my emaxx just for fun without a problem, but that was pretty mild conditions. i believe the gd should be able to be compressed alot. i never understood why they were so wide (one cause to the flexing). i have wanted to cut down the spur's sides and trim the posts. maybe you could give it a try?

Here is a pic of the rear stealth axle SVEN. The front one is a bunch of parts in a box. It is the reason why I quit the project. Couldnt figure out reliable steering. Your build shed a lil light on the subject and I will probably pick it back up next week.

almost 3" center clearance, 10.75" wide with WK wheels. Could get a good bit narrower with my VF wheels or narrowed wheels.

Thanks for the idears."thumbsup"

Thanks for the info. Looks like I'll have to find some used GD600's and try them before investing in the GRU's.

Wow, I wish I would have done that. It looks so much easier (less time consuming).

Sven;

A dual motor 2.2 will never work, you should stop.

Rene

Aw man! You could have mentioned that earlier. Bummer, well I guess I'll just have to part it out then. oh well, I tried.

Rockmuncher: Yeah, I've been looking at those. Still undecided though. I think I will just run it how it is, and then see what kind of gear down I will need.

I'm very excited about these wheels, because I've never used anything but cheap stampede wheels. These are Mayhem Engineering beadlocks and I like them mostly because they don't look like anything else out right now.
This is my combo:
Mayhem Spider ME - 1001 machined finish
Mayhem Custom ME - 2002 blue

Mayhem has great customer service and are very easy to talk with. I can't wait to make a 1.9 and get some more of these wheels.

wow dude! that is insane! those axles redefine beefy! how are you going to set up the chassis and body tho, I wonder? if I were you I would hang a small plate from the backbone, mount the electronics to that along with a small lead weight, then run some body posts out from the sides of it. at that point you could make a limiter piece to keep it from flexing too much (360 plus degrees of flex is a bit more than is needed, I must say. would look cool tho!) and rubbing the body. perhaps a section of fishing line anchored to the axle and the backbone to act as a limiting strap? I would try bracing the axle Cs and rear hubs tho. it looks like a fall off of a rock landing on one wheel would do a number on the axle Cs and rear hubs, especially if this thing ends up being relatively heavy

Sacco you would have an awful steering radius if you run the dog bones at that much of an angle.... just something to keep in mind if you go ahead with the front axle.

thats a neat axle. Looks like it took a bunch of work though to put together, after the first one though it should be a breeze.
Cant wait to see the truck completed, and the stick chassis looks pretty sweet also.

Build is coming along great "thumbsup"

Two questions....what type of bit is that you're using in that rotary tool to "mill out" the plastic, and what size & where did you pick up those composite pillow blocks for your chassis pivots?

The bit is a dremel Tungsten Carbide Cutter 1/8", item number 73390 at lowes.com.

The pillow blocks came from McMaster-Carr.com.
Mine are part number 6687K35, but they don't fit the tube I have (the ones I found only came in metric). They are a little small, so I removed material until the tube slid through. These had the smallest width at the base, 2 inches.

where do you get mayhems?

how do they compare to montana scale design ones?

thanks

Check the vendors section for a post by mayhem or send him a pm. I don't know how they compare, because I don't own any MSD's.

The part of the bottom plate that is sticking out will either be cut off or bent up.
