Custom 2.2 axles using Axial transmissions

The bit is a dremel Tungsten Carbide Cutter 1/8", item number 73390 at lowes.com.

The pillow blocks came from McMaster-Carr.com.
Mine are part number 6687K35, but they don't fit the tube I have (the ones I found only came in metric). They are a little small, so I removed material until the tube slid through. These had the smallest width at the base, 2 inches.

Thanks. Sorry if you mentioned it already but, is that acetal (delrin) that you're using? How smoothly does that bit carve through it? "Like butter"....or forcefully :D ?

I don't think I have mentioned it yet, but yes it is acetal (delrin). And yes it is very much like butter. Even with my 5 year old cutting bit. It doesn't melt when you cut it , like lexan does. Just fine soft shavings.

I was fortunate to get some scrap peices from my uncle's work when they redid their manufacturing jigs. That's why some of my parts have odd holes/plastic screws in them.

This thread is why I got involved with this hobby. I love the ingenuity and outside the box thinking. Not everyone needs a kit box of parts and instructions. I'm looking forward to seeing a rolling chassis real quick8) Keep up the awesome work. Wear your safety glasses:lol:

Thanks for the reminder, I use a face shield. I have been hit hard in the forehead by a shattered cutoff disc while wearing safety glasses, so now I use a full face shield.

dang, sven that thing is looking great. is that motor hanging off the rear too much to affect it on verticals?

I don't know, it will be easy to try both ways though.

Thanks Ryan.

It's a roller. Now I have to mount the shocks and the electronics. The shocks will be a droop type setup, only it will be using 2.
I think I found where I will place the lipo pack, I just need to build some protection for it.

The screws hanging down above the pack will be cut off.

The pack sits behind the front of the tires.

And the mandatory flex shot.

What's all this talk of protection and cutting down screws. I'm sure the battery will be just fine sitting there. :D

Do ya think it would be ok to just put some velcro on that plate and call it good?

it looks like it should be fine. maybe a scrap piece of body lexan at the most. but being that these trucks don't hit anything straight on that hard, because they are so slow, i don't think it needs much attention where it is. i would bend the edge of that aluminum skid up a bit. i can that being a frustrating hang up spot. The rig looks reallyy good! video video video videooooooo :]

Yeah, I was being sarcastic about that. I guess I should have put an 'lol' at the end.
There's no way I'm going to leave it exposed in any way.

No video yet, or for a while. I don't have the electronics installed yet. Been mostly doing small stuff, like countersinking all the holes and working on the shock setup.

haha woops. i really thought it would be fine though :[

looking good sven. what is up with the wheels?

red sharpie

Hahaha, I'm pretty sure it's anodizing.

The wheels in front are Red Phattys and are the result of Mayhem Engineering's awesome customer service. Two of my wheels were dented in shipping, so mayhem took it upon himself to take care of it. He sent me a set of the phattys to use while I wait for the next batch of spiders. So, I sent the two dented one's back and he sent me a set of the phattys, complete with rings! I can't say enough about Mayhem's service, I will be doing business with them in the future for sure. The wheels and rings are really sweet too. "thumbsup""thumbsup"

I was really stunned by the weight of the phattys. One wheel easily weighed twice as much as the 2 front lead weighted stampede wheels I was using. So that is why they are on the front, and they may just stay there, even when the new spiders come back.

wow man awesome job. cant wait to see it finished

Thanks, I can't wait to be finished with it, for the most part (they are never finished).

Holy crap, that thing is amazing! I don't know how I missed this thread until now, but keep up the good work!
