Cutting a motor commutator & motor tweaks

Well, Fantom used to make the CKRC motors, then I did......the web guys over there originally had all the fantom motor specs up on the page......when they started selling my motors, they inserted my motor info into the page, but only some of it......why, I dunno..I've asked them to correct it with little luck....

I'd be worried about condensation, ESCs don't like water. What is getting so hot in a crawler that you're worried about cooling it?

I was talking to a guy,and he said thats how they cool the servo's and motors
He said it was like dry ice out of a can,if you hold the canister upside down.

I was thinking that it may have some negative effect

Will work fine on the motor........I dunno on a servo though, sounds kinda risky as it not only has sensitive electronics in it, but gears that can get brittle from cold, along with the grease getting too thick....

I've never heard of overheating servos in racing.......I would imagine a decent heatsink would clear up the problem.

I think he said it was on his super,I had never heard of doing it befor
And I would think that the copper that goes through the motor tabs
could become brittle too.

If you're getting a servo that hot, I'd be seriously checking out the mechanical end of the steering system and making sure the radio adjustments are correct.

your just using the refrigerant/propellant inside the can, its not liquid nitrogen

oh but it will give some one nasty frostbite if you hit open skin

The cold would never penetrate enough to harm the tabs.......I guess it could make the solder brittle......but I weld, so wee!

We used to stick motors in freezer bags and put them in salted ice water in a freezer.......things were sub 15 degrees....never had an issue with them....just relubed the bearings/bushings......and a quick solder job. VERY fast motors...

Newbie ?
I have only been into electric RC for awhile and have read alot of this thread and search some.
My questions are, does anyone have links to where I can buy fairly reasonable com cutters AND brush cutters?
It would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks.

used lathes on hobbytalk and rctech classifieds all the time....

brush cutters are a little harder to find, I have the trinity Brush Butcher units still, were almost $100 new.........$50 plus shipping. You do need an old motor for them too....

Thanks EddieO.
Just found a used brush cutter, but will check those 4-sale sites.
Thanks again.

balancer

Way back in the old slot car days (I'm talking the '60's) We used to rewind all our motors, polish the armature, epoxy the winds and used two single blade razor blades to make a "balancer", lay the armature (just the ends) on the razors edge and drill the heavy side until it was balanced. Made some carzy fast motors and blow up many too. We didn't have lathes, just stuck the armature in a drill motor and some sand paper.

Static balancing can be somewhat effective...........its certainly better than no balance at all......

Almost all of the original RC motor guys came from slots.......Big Jim, Mike Reedy, Ernie Provetti (Trinity Owner), etc.....Ernie himself was a World Champ. Team Associated used to make Slot car stuff before getting into RC...

Slot car arms are very advanced compared to ours.......

Check out those OG sanyo cells that guy's using. I bet those last all of 45 seconds before they dump. It's funny to think about racing with those and worrying about making time...

LOL com'on 1200's ...... Yellow was the way in the day :lmao:

Cobra's are like fat girls to me.......I'll use one if I have too, but I won't feel good about it afterwards and I certainly won't tell anyone about it....

Does anyone know who might have the fussy brush instock?? I did have an order with DeWayne but his machine that makes them has controller problems so wont be making them for a while....
