Cutting carbon fiber question

I did a search on cutting carbon fiber and couldn't find anything. What is the best way for cutting carbon fiber and what would you guys recommend and for drillbits to..

If your using a dremel then normal cutting discs will work or better is a diamond cutting disc. Wear a Repirator in a well ventilated area.

If using a hand saw (scribe saw/scroll saw/jig saw/what ever you may call it) you want to use a something like these Perma-Grit Jig Saw Blades in stock | Fibre Glast . Wear a Respirator in a well ventilated area.

If you have CNC/Router access ....... Diamond tips and again Wear a Respirator in a well ventilated area.

Carbon fiber is tough ...... generally speaking you will dull what ever saw blades you put into it. But the dust will kill you faster then the frustration so protect yourself.

I put a fan behind me while cutting c.f. to blow the dust and fumes away.

Wear long sleeves and gloves! I wore a mask the first time but had a t shirt on. Won't do that again!

If you're drilling or using a cutting tool that's kinda slow you can use water as a cutting fluid. It keeps the dust down pretty well and also helps keep the CF from getting overly hot. But, a respirator is a good idea no matter what.

I don't have access to a cnc or wetjet for cutting it. So I'll be using a jigsaw or my dermal. I'm trying to make another chassis for my Kyosho USA-1, like sassy chassis offered back in the day.

I just made my first CF chassis and I wore a proper respirator while running my band saw and scroll saw. You'll have no trouble cutting it with a jigsaw. Not a fan of Dremel tools for real work. Great for relieving a small area or polishing or grinding away at something small...but not for "real" work like cutting out a whole chassis.

A tip I received was to coat the cut edges with CA glue afterward to seal them up. I tried that and it seemed to make them less fuzzy...which was good.

Just be careful about breathing it.

I use a shop vac to collect the dust. Still end up itching for a few days afterwards. Love the end result, yet my least favorite material to work with.

That's what I use ..... bagged inside and a Hepa filter on it. I put one of those mufflers on the back to cut the noise down too.

I've been using tin snips to cut the carbon fibre panels for my Foff build. Panels are only 1.5mm thick, so tin snips are great for you won't have dust going everywhere.

Band saw works great. Thin stuff scissors is fine. The dust is itchy and you dont want it in your lungs.

I use a dremel for my CF work. I've found cutting wheels to work best, for me.. Wear eye protection as well, they hurt when they break!
