Are the RC4WD differential spider gears the only ones available? These are always out of stock. Done a search and can not fine anything else

Some people say the HPI gears are stronger (part# 86014) but others say they are about the same as the stock gears.

The life of any of the diff gear options will be greatly enhanced by the addition of aluminum diff cups. The HPI gears in Hot Racing diff cups seem to be holding up well in my truck.

Being a beginner can I ask what difference using aluminium cups will do over the supplied kit versions. Are the aluminium ones softer so more give?

The stock diff cups are plastic and can flex under the loads caused by monster truck tires. The flexing causes the mesh of the internal diff gears to get thrown out of alignment which will cause them to fail. The aluminum diff cups do not flex so the alignment of the spider gears does not change under load.
