are any of these worth purchasing or should i just hit a local camera store and buy one there?

I think you'd be better off buying of Ebay. I don't know about the camera shops by you, but here they'll roll you over and do you dry. Nice choice on a camera by the way. My brother has one and he loves it. Me, I'm still using an old Canon AE-1. Things like a tank!

Personally, I wouldn't buy electronics off of Ebay (Such as a Camera). I know a friend who bought a Rebel XT off of ebay, supposedly brand new. Used it for 2 weeks, then the Memory card it came with failed, worked for another 3 days, and the camera crapped out. Sensor was ****, and had some other problems...

IF you are going to buy online, go to BH Photo Video, They have often have great deals there (And have heard nothing but good from them).

Basically, No, I wouldn't reccomend buying off of ebay, but its up to you. You never know. I just like knowing if I have an issue with my camera, I can take it to the shop I bought it from, and return it with the inshop warranty, or, if its passed that warranty, they can ship it safely (without me having to worry).

I wouldnt buy off of Ebay either for Camera's, as you have no way telling if it is a 'grey' market product or not. Either way, make sure you do the research on which ever camera you pick up. Don't be affraid to look at the Nikon lineup of Camera's as well. I own 2 Nikons, and love them both.

I would recommend getting a original digital rebel 300d, a 10d, or even 20d camera over the newer rebel cameras. After the first digital rebel, they made the rebel series bodies to small. Go to a store and compare the feel of one in your hands next to the higher end canon models. The lens is more important then the camera, though the higher end models can shoot faster.

thanks, I've never owned a higher end camera and wouldn't wanna get screwed in any way by buying a grey market camera or something that can't be warrantied.

I've done the research between the nikon D40x and the canon rebel XTi. I don't really wanna spend $1300 or more on a camera so I don't think ill end up with a higher model than the XTi. The only thing I haven't done is hold the different cameras in hand and physically compare them. Ill head down to a camera store this week sometime and look around.

I would not buy off Ebay. Most are import models (grey market) which don't carry the full manufactuers warranty and tend to have more problems out of the box. I would stick with BH Photo/Video, Adoroma, or even Amazon.com. I would also look at Nikon. I have the Nikon D80 and compared to my friends Rebel, the output quality is vastly better from the Nikon. Also, when stepping up to dSLR, as stated already, the lens makes all the difference. When you decide on either a Canon or Nikon, you investment lays in the lenses and not necessarily the camera body because bodies are updated every few years. Defenitely read as many reviews as you can. Also, go to pbase.com and look at photos taken by the exact models you are looking at, this helped me choose the Nikon D80 over the Rebel. Also, go to the camera store and see which one feels the best to you. The Rebel is quite small and not layed out well for people with larger hands. The Nikon is larger, but doesn't way much more and is laid out better IMO.

Also, the Nikon D40x was replaced with the Nikon D60 (http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-10-2MP-Digital-18-55mm-3-5-5-6G/dp/B0012OGF6Q). My brother and sister-n-law bought the D60 and its a great camera and fast ( a true 3 fps). It also comes with a great 18-55 VR kit lens and the optional battery pack helps balance the camera with larger lenses and adds an extra battery so you don't have to worry about missing a shot bc of no battery.

the package deal on that isn't bad, but i'd be cautious on any eletrionics from fleabay....for a couple a hundred bucks more get yourself a good camera....i'm going with the EOS 40D from canon....

from the pictures i've seen from a friends 40D of the bald eagles in my area along the river and reviews i've read on the rebel and the 40D the 40D is the one to go with in my mind....sure it cost a little more, but it's a better camera by what reviews i've read "thumbsup" ....................bob

We have the Rebel Xti and love it...

It's takes waaay better pictures than I am capable of shooting.

I picked ours up at Wolf Camera on sale.

That is one reason I went with an older 10D. The feel is alot better to me than the plastic bodied Digital Rebels.

I would love to get a 40D but the rebel is already about the most I wanna spend. You say the d40x was replaced by the d60? I haven't looked around for a few months now so I might have missed that. Ill look into those, I've got big hands and if the smaller body of the rebel has been a problem for others than it'll likely be a problem for me as well. I don't really have any bias towards either as I've got no experience with DSLR cameras but I definetly want something that's gonna be comfortable in my hand all day.

Like I said, just go to a store that has the cameras, and try them out. See what feels best in your hands.

Yup, yup.

I'm shooting with a 20D for now.

If you wanna nice point and shoot camera try the Canon G9. Love it, huge res and easy to use. Even has options for the Tele and Fish eye lenses for it. I sure like mine. Otherwise I shoot a 5D, way too big to just carry around though. Photography is fun to learn and create with, but it sure is nice to point and shoot awesome pics as well.

BH Photo is definitely a good place to purchase from. You know you're getting what they advertise.

The ebay package deal looks to good to be true. That many lenses, and all the other equipment....seems pretty low priced to me which usually means there is something they are not telling you. It is comforting to see that they clearly label that it's a USA model with full USA warranty from Canon....but just make sure that's what you're really getting. Some of these online camera stores are con artists in terms of telling you what you get, but not giving you what they said.

I've got a 30D and love it, but not everyone needs as much camera. I agree with Etype...you need to go to a camera shop and test drive a bunch of them...even if you decide to purchase elsewhere. This gives you the chance to feel the weight of each camera and see the physical size so you will know what to expect.

Just be careful where you buy it online ;-)

We already had a Cannon 35mm with several lens that would work on the digital. It was an easy choice. I think jason also had a Cannon and liked it at the time

Package deals are cheap for a reason. Yeah it may have 4 lenses but the chances of them being any good are not very high.
I was originally looking at a rebel as well but after stopping into a local store to test drive a couple I could not stand the way it felt in my hand and in the end wound up with a camera I had not even thought about before because it felt so good.
Test drive as many as you can then read up on the ones you like.
