Dive-bombing mockingbirds versus Axial SCX10

I live in a suburban area about 20 minutes from the city, but I'm far enough away from the city to get some nice wildlife in my area. We see deer, plenty of beautiful insects, and a large number of different species of birds. One of these being the mocking bird. During the spring of 2012, my neighbor had the *amazing* experience of having a mockingbird nest right above their door. If you've ever heard anything about mockingbirds, you'll know that they don't like company near their nests. So one day, I'm walking to the driveway to leave for school, and out of nowhere, BAM! I feel something hard smack the back of my neck. I turn around and look to see what hit me, and I see a mockingbird turning around to make another hit. Little bird hit me right in the back of the neck in an attempt to protect his/her babies. I see it coming in for another hit, so I duck and cover my head. Once I'm at the car, I put the key in the ignition. Turn it, NOTHING. Doesn't even turn over. So now I have a mockingbird attempting to decapitste me, and a bad starter. So this is becoming a really sh*tty day. I call my friend to give me a lift, and my day goes by. Get home, walk the long way to the front door to avoid a dive bomb. So I'm dealing with a bad starter and mockingbirds. Life's been way worse before. That was about a week ago. Now, I'm sitting here thinking about how I can get rid of this thing for a while while I'm replacing the starter. I'm gunna be honest, I thought about baseball bat and tennis racket before I thought of umbrella. So now my car works, and I only sacrificed one umbrella.

Now, I'm thinking, "Let's have fun with this bird" so I'm thinking about how I can mess with it. Notice what site I'm posting this on, RCC. :lmao: I'm thinking that it would be really funny to see how a mockingbird would react if he saw a scx10 driving in circles around his nest. I'm thinking if I put a clear hardtop on the roof and my phone in the interior, I could get some pretty cool videos. I'll post videos if I get anything good.

Anyone else have any fun yet harmless things to do to mess around with some birds? Cannot involve RC helicopters, planes, Bb/paintball/airsoft guns, or anything else that could possibly hurt the birds. I'm figuring it would be pretty hard for a bird to get hurt on a RC Jeep Wrangler unless it gets caught in the wheel well lol. Any ideas? I'm up for almost anything :flipoff:

Hilarious!! :lmao: how badly did the bird damage the umbrella? i bet you have a real nice lump on the back of your neck! I think it would be safe enough to bug it a little with your scx10 JUST BE CAREFUL! I dont think this would be somthing i would do, you dont want to get wrapped up in one of those crazy animal rights cases people may think your trying to hurt the bird. "thumbsup"

Cool story, but the entire time I'm reading it, I cannot help but have this running through my head...

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Hell, now I have to watch that movie. I don't think I've ever seen it, now that I think of it...

Lil' bear, there were a few holes, but I threw the umbrella out before I could get pictures. When I get back home, if the trash men haven't come by yet I'll take it out and get pictures. I did have a red spot on my neck for about a day, but no lump. Yet. "thumbsup"

I'll put the hardtop on so he can't get caught in the roll cage, and make sure that he doesn't get up into the shell. If I get sued by an animal rights activist, I'll tell 'em I was defending myself and my family. I was just having a little bit of fun with it......:flipoff:

Got a video of me trying to put a fake Grackle next to the nest, and he comes right for me lmao. I'll see if I can post videos on photobucket and if I can, I will post a link to my 5 minute video. The first few minutes are me looking for it, and you'll notice I start looking right at it for a few seconds and then he takes off for me.

I'll try to post to photobucket and if I can't, I will post a screenshot of the bird like 15" from my iPad while it was taking the video

Video wouldn't upload so here's a screenshot of the bird coming in for a landing, and me holding the fake bird in my hand watching it from the street.

Just as it comes towards me, I stance myself, and get ready to run if it comes within bombing distance.

This is the bird about a foot and a half from my iPad. Pretty cool pic, but it was low res becuase Apple spend most of their time optimizing apps but skimps out on camera, processor, and ram size. But enough about Apple....

Notice I'm standing in the street, I was using my BMW as a body shield :lmao:

Forgot to add, if you look above the passenger side taillight on the Venza in the driveway across the street, you'll find the culprit. I'm fine with dealing with normal birds like the doves, pigeons, cardinals, and the occasional blue jay, but the whole species of mocking birds are all my worst nightmare.

Lil' Bear, trash men came by while I was gone. It wouldn't be hard to imagine, just a black umbrella with a a few smaller holes and a larger 3" hole in it... Lmao

Got it planted on the windowsill. Haven't seen the bird since I put it out. I'm thinking I'll have to take the bird back in a few minute so the babies get food......
