DIY Universal screen Backlight kit: DX3S, DX3R, and others!!!

Ok 1 Left, who wants it.

I ordered 5 more today, so my next batch will be here in 1-2 weeks. But they will have a few changes... No longer will they be plug and play with speky radios... will require two simple solder joints. But for another 5 bucks i can make it plug and play if your afraid to solder to joints.

I will be taking pre-orders on these kits. I did include 1 red backlight in this batch. So first one who wants it, gets it. Additional els are $10,

Another finished backlight install..

The kit came priority mail, a few days earlier than I expected so I finished my install today on a DX3S. Really painless install. The instructions provided were great. I documented the whole process for some racers in my local area.

Feel free to check em out:

I don't wanna paste the whole thing in as a reply to this thread since it's a little lengthy but you can see my pics from the process here: http://bit.ly/gSIgtY

Anyway, Suffice to say, if you are on the fence on this -- I'd say go for it. Took me about an hour and I wasn't in any hurry as you can tell from the photos..

Thanks again Losikid, great kit you put together.

On my 3R:

Ok i have a ?? here.

I had a DX3S with a backlight mod sold it and bought a R.

I was noticing a toggle switch in a members pics is this really necessary or can it be bypassed???

I really do not want to put a hole in my radio and idk if there is enough room to just stuff the switch inside the radio.

yes, actually due to general wants, i don't even put the switch in the wiring harness, just include it so if someone does want a on-off switch they can splice it in....

So yes i can make a kit with no switch on it and just include it on the side in case you want it.

Ok that answers my ???.

I will be getting with you to get two of these.

Update:

I just updated first post...

So heres whats changed

kits now will require 2 simple solder joints to install, or for $5 i can make it solder free install for speky radios

Kits will come standard without a switch on the harness to turn light on and off, however if requested i will put one on free of charge...either way a small toggle switch will be included.

Reason for the change is it has little disadvantages, and makes it easier for me to build these and sell it for this price...if there was enough interest to pay for the 200 dollar pair of crimpers to crimp the micro connectors i wouldn't mind charging my current price, however spending 30-45 minutes crimping 4 connectors is not worth my time to make about 7.50 off a kit

I should have more kits in by monday, i do have a red el in this order so if someone wants a red backlight its first come first serve. Otherwise has to wait till next order.

Well, I wanted to do the same as you, so when I bought my kit, I had Losikid just add the switch on the side. After inspecting the harness that leads from the factory power switch toward the circuit boards, I could not determine which provided power (IIRC, 5 wires) and upon calling Horizon, I was told that they could not give out that info ()....so I hard wired the power to the driver from the battery tray. If you can figure out which wires need to be tapped into on the power plug, then you should be able to solder the driver leads into that. Otherwise, you'll need to pull one of the batteries to turn off the backlight when you are finished with the radio.

do you have any closer pics of the switch board...it can't be too hard to find...

Ideally just use a multi meter and see where you get voltage, or follow the battery tracks to the switch, then the leads the tracks that come out of the switch.

Here is the best picture that I could find of the harness that leaves the transmitter power switch:

I just approved message #22. You couldn't see it before.

I believe it was two red, one white and (maybe) two black....to be certain, I'd need to take it apart again...

I have just SOLD OUT, it may be a month or so before i'll order parts to do another batch. If you would like a kit pm me lmk your interested and if i get enough people i will order in another batch or i will point you to the right place to get one similar to mine, but i think i'll be busy with dual esc, and 3tp controllers for awhile...so no more backlights for now.

DANG! Biggest complaint about the 3R and there's been a solution for months. If anyone wants to sell their kit- hit me up. If not, i'll wait till the next batch.

I should have more in a month or so, once i get 20-30 wAs adapters sold i can afford to bring back the backlights...but they will just be el and driver, same way i get them, i will then have volt regs, wire and other stuff sold separately if you need them."thumbsup"

Unless i get 5 people wanting one before then...i can then order some in. Including you i've only had two requests.
