Does anyone else here hate Christmas?

another christmas birthday here...i've grown to hate christmas with a passion. i stay in and clean, cook, and maybe go out and clear snow. my mother still wants to decorate the house, i haven't done it in years and plan to keep it that way. its a normal day except cooking a nice meal.

worst is my brother....in addition to being extremely religious, he also likes to decorate and play the same damn songs over and over again, while singing them. safe to say that when he is home for the holidays, i spend a lot of time with ear plugs in or headphones on. at least mother doesn't play the music that acts as a drill to the temple.

Compromise.

i typically just go with the headphones and paramore, can block him out and keep calm. for some twisted reason he thinks i should enjoy christmas, get me gifts and such...but he's been stalling on redoing the rewire he did on the shop lights for a couple years now. if he comes home this year and doesn't fix them right this time i'm going to have to climb up there...and i don't do heights.

on a happy note, netflix nukes a lot of the holiday cheer plague that's already spreading, combine that with going apeshit on cleaning, and i think i can keep the house christmas free....

even Mr.Kittah doesn't like this holiday.

I have my issues w/ the holiday but I try not to be too 'grinchy' around others, I'll just hang low and wait for the day to be over with. I do, however, have absolutely no patience w/ people at the malls and stores- I get sick to the stomach hearing the same stupid x-mas songs over and over again and being bombarded w/ solicitors.

Last year I was working at a Russian owned company, 95% of the people there were Russian Orthodox, they don't celebrate Christmas on Dec 25, it's some time in January for them. They just laughed at the commercial stupidity of what goes on here in the States.

It's for kids. And if you have kids, I get it. I have everything I need, and most if my wants too. I'm very grateful for that. I don't want any presents. If I want something, I go out and buy it. I hate the hype, the crowds, the expectations, the celebration of overspending on crap that's forgotten a week later, the traffic, the whole deal. It has nothing to do with religion, it has all to do with gross consumerism at its lowest level. The only thing i do like about it, is 'A Christmas Story'. Thats it. Call me a Scrooge.

You nailed it! That is exactly how I feel!"thumbsup"

For many years it was all about our kids and spending time with the family.

My kids are getting to that age where its not the same and this will be my first x-mass without my dad and my mother in law--its not nor will it ever be the same and I am not looking forward to it this year except for my kids...

What I hate about this time of year is threads like this. It's not even Thanksgiving yet and people are talking about Christmas already.

Actually is starts at Halloween. Stores around here start putting up Christmas decorations at Halloween, and by the time Christmas gets here, I'm so fed up with it, that I can't wait for January 2nd when everything goes back to normal.

I think if the retail sector would just let each Holiday be it's own Holiday, instead of a countdown to Christmas, I'd be ok with it. But now it's just 5 weeks of not being able to go into a store if I need something, or a bar to get a beer because 50,000 people feel this need to get in my way.

There are already people camping outside of some Best Buy's for Black Friday. How little is your time worth, that you can kill a week camping in front of a store, to be first in line for something?

Haven't you given them the "when am I getting grandkids" speech yet? :ror:

My wife and I's respective families experienced a bit of a lull in our Christmas excitement until "us kids" had kids of our own. Now that several of our own kids are approaching the teens, we've noticed a slight downturn again. Still fun, but not like it was when they were little and had the Christmas Crazy in their eyes.

Many retail stores don't actually start making profits until after Black Friday. The longer they can stretch that money making 2 months out, and the more frenzied they can make people, the better (for them).

But I agree. It is pure insanity. I refuse to participate.

How odd... I was on my way home tonight from our comp and the wife calls and we meet at our local mexican restaurant for dinner.

Somehow we got on that conversation about grand kids, lol. The wife said 15 years she aint ready, lol granted my kids are 16 and 14....... Ya I aint ready either for some time...

i work at wall mart and i hate this and any holiday with a passion, its the one thing i cant stand anymore as a kid it was over done and now its just gotten worse, my gf wants to do a gift thing so i buy random crap threw the year so its cheaper and keeps me in the good, :D

I just sit back and laugh at the way the shopping rush makes everyone so crazy.

As for family getting together. That's what Thanksgiving is for.. Which has always been my favorite holiday.. It helps that I love to eat. :lmao:

I hear you. This thread was inspired by a 'nice' pre-Thanksgiving Christmas thread on here. That's the only reason it exists. I wasn't going to hijack that thread.

That Black Friday crap is completely out of control. And for what, a $200 TV? People get hurt every year at those sales, yet they still do it. Stupid.

I was reading that everyone who lines up for their Black Friday sale at Walmart will be guaranteed to receive whatever the hot item is that they are gunning for. Maybe that will knock down some of the insanity. Probably not.
