Any gun owners and none gun owners should be ACTIVELY be fighting this! Do some research on the people running for your government positions, You'll be surprised! Some might remember what happened when the government "outlawed" alcohol... Crime shot up and "gangsters'' made millions of dollars making, smuggling, and selling alcohol (some dangerous) to anyone who wanted to risk being caught with it or in an establishment that was selling it. If they outlaw guns only outlaws will have them... we have all heard this statement and if the anti guns people get their way it won't just be a statement anymore it will be true!!! Get educated about YOUR RIGHTS and do something! Many countries such as Australia, Canada, England and others have "disarmed" there LAW ABIDING citizens and required them to turn over their guns to the local Police or risk punishment... For what you ask? For owning something that is a right given to us from the founders of this country to be able to protect yourself and your family?? For owning something that many of us have grown up with and has great sentimental meaning with Grandfathers, Fathers, and Sons? I know not everyone is "into" guns or shooting and that is fine but you should be "into" your personal freedoms granted by the constitution of America! I plan to get involved and I hope some of you will too! Take someone shooting that has never been or is "Anti Gun" and be smart about it... Don't take someone who "hates guns" shooting when you only plan on taking the AK or the M4 bring the .22 rifle or pistol, don't hand them a 12 gauge with slugs in it and expect them to change their view of guns... I know if the first gun I ever fired would have been a 12 gauge instead of a .22 rifle (which I still own and was my Dads) I would have never wanted to shoot again! Be smart, be supportive, and most importantly BE SAFE!!!!!!

I had a discussion with someone the other day and I said that I was unsure which president to vote for since I have to choose between two candidates who split my beliefs on gun control and pro-choice.

He told me I should be more worried about the economy and health care and vote based on that.

Yeah right, I should care more about money and economics than my personal freedoms as an American citizen.
Good post Robb. "thumbsup"

I really can't understand why anyone would want to illegalize guns. Really, the concept just confuses me. What good would it do? The problem that needs to be addressed is why people commit gun crimes. Murder is already illegal, so are a long list of other gun related crimes, why do we need more laws which essentially target the same problem? Lots of people die of heart disease, should we outlaw bacon? Plenty of people die in car wrecks, should we outlaw cars? I know full well there are people who think both of those should be outlawed, but they're head cases. But so are the people who want guns outlawed.

I feel your pain man. Really, I don't like either of them. I'm pro choice and I like some of obama's energy policy, but I prefer Mccain's stance on gun control. It'll probably come down to how much Palin scares me and how likely McCain is to die in office (especially if he gets a second term) It's just a stupid popularity contest really, any of them will just muck the place up more. I have virtually no faith in the american political system.

Dang it! I had a really good bunch of info I was about to post and lost it since I can't drive the new Apple yet!:x

Little, you are right... If I were a criminal would I want to "work" in a town were people were unable to protect themselves or one were nearly everyone on the street could be carrying a firearm??? I know I would be thinking twice about mugging, kidnapping or attempting to harm anyone in the latter!

I can definately hear ya on that statement, and honestly I think that will be one of the biggest issues with alot of people in this election. The way I have decided to look at it though is to just base it on what has a direct effect on me right now, but it's still a tough decision. What got me was being out at one of the local plants here the other day and one of their large dumpsters had a "guns only" sign on it. First thought from seeing that was about an article I read somewhere a long time back about one of the countries forcing people to turn in their guns to be destroyed and how they were all thrown in a dumpster like that. I still can't understand why people can't comprehend the fact that pretty much all criminals that own guns have them illegally to start with, so that will not change by banning them. Either way, as of right now I can't think of a single law that I break anymore, and for the most part I always try to be a law abiding citizen. If this country bans guns that will change because there's no way anyone will take my firearms that belonged to my father, his father, and his father's father even. Heck, as far as the paper trail shows though I only own one assualt rifle, and I don't have a clue where that thing ended up.

People kill people, guns help, therefore guns must be restricted, but taken away is just outrageous....

People kill people, sticks, rocks, and plastic bags help, therefore sticks, rocks, and plastic bags must be restricted.

WTF, pull your head out of your ass...

I struggle with it every election. My policy has been to decide on who I dislike the least. Then for all other positions in the government I alternate votes for the two parties. I want a mix, I don't ever want to see a single party in control.

1. it was an editorial by a very anti gun individual at the CHICAGO tribune
2. it was an editorial in the anti gun CHICAGO tribune
3. it was an editorial in the anti gun city of CHICAGO
4. the anti gun writer is best buds with anti gun richard daily (capitalizing a name shows repect hence no caps)

Dont get your feathers in a bind, every day in the Chicago news there is something anti gun. Its part of living around here. Some day they will get robbed at knife point and wish they had 1 of those guns they hate.

On a side note, daily is one of the biggest anti handgun politicians yet, his body guards all carry Glock.

Every legal citizen in the U.S has the right to own a firearm whether there are restrictions or not.

As everyone has mentioned several times, restricting weapons that belong to the people is the dumbest idea ever.

Look what is happening in Mexico right now, regular citizens are being gunned down and being kidnapped by thugs from cartels.
The only thing is preventing them from coming over here( FYI I live in El Paso which borders Juarez) is the fact we own weapons and WILL defend ourselves.

When my Dad was in Jr. High and High school many schools had Gun clubs and even shooting ranges in the basements of school property! People didn't think twice about it... What has changed America's perceived view of guns? I have a neighbor who grew up on a farm with a gun by the back door and she tells me she is so afraid of them and she would never have touched it even if she would have NEEDED too! To me this sounds like a Father that didn't want to explain the safe handling and use of a firearm to his Daughters (bad idea!) So he terrified them of it instead... another bad idea! My daughter is 9 and has been shooting since she was 5, she knows what it looks like, how it works, and knows that even the tiny little .22 can kill someone dead and they will never come back! I don't think making everyone afraid of guns is the way to keep kids safe, when I was a young boy I was taught very young to respect firearms for what they can do if handled incorrectly. I was also taught that if I ever touched one without my Dad's supervision my tail would pay the price (DEARLY!) When ever he would go shooting he would teach us a little bit more about the safe use of guns (and ammo) and I am grateful he did that instead of just saying "Guns are dangerous" and " never touch them" like my neighbor.. I plan to take her shooting soon and show her guns can be safe and FUN without making her terrified of it, and I hope it changes her perception of guns. I don't expect her to rush out and buy every gun she see's but I just want her to see for herself if it is for her not because her Dad told her 30 years ago that they are dangerous and never touch one.

So are you going to restrict knives, ball bats, pieces of pipe, and hands. Many people kill others without using guns. I say hang killers on the court house square for people to see and the crap will stop. If we did things like they did in the old days criminals would be less active.
Or like in other countries. Theives get a hand cut off , rapist or child molesters, well you get the idea. They will too!!!

Nearly all media is "anti-gun" simply because it is the popular thing right now. Very rarely do you see any positive stories on how someone saved his family from certain harm with a gun. I'll see if I can find the episode of Thirty days were a complete anti gun advocate was placed with a Father Son family that were very Pro gun... I didn't think they would get her to change at all but I was wrong! She changed her view of guns completely and was actually enjoying shooting. She did say she would probably never own one herself but she know why people are so passionate about the subject now.

As much as I would like to sit here the rest of the afternoon and discuss this matter, I have to go to work so I can afford a new pistol!

Carry on!

I have quite a few rifles and am into them just as much as RC crawling.

Good luck to those who wish to take them away:)
