well I use douglas cart wheels... but I also work at a Tire store so I bought them at cost... sealed cartridge bearing. also our axles that the wheels spin on are supported with bearing in the tube.

the harbor freight dolly wheels/tires work fine. A few guys run them, but I would suggest upgrading the bearings to these.

Just built my drift trike yesterday. Found a Jeep bike at the Goodwill.
Need to clean up the welds and then add some paint.
The seat is just a temp one until I can come up with a school style chair.
I added some rubber to the top of the seat after these pics were taken to keep your butt planted.
Might have to order chair off of ebay, since I cant seem to find one locally.

I need to swap out front tire to a smoother one, this one is a knobby and really chews at your legs. I also have a kids beach cruiser front fender I will try to add later to keep the legs off of the tire.

I went with the harbor freight wheels since this is mainly going to ridden by my 9 and 12 boys and for 8 dollars a piece, you cant beat that.

They are quite fun and sketchy at the same time. I'm already looking for another doner bike so both kids can have one.

This is my brothers that he made last week for him and 16 and 12 year old girls. His he took his daughters 20 inch beach cruiser. The front fender works great, never have to worry about legs rubbing on the tire.
Both mine and his have adjustable seats.

Forgot about this thread but thanks for the links. Yeah the bearings in our wheels are shot now. Mostly my fault for thinking they would hold how I built my axle. Been pretty busy so I haven't been able to get out on these things in a couple weeks. Always scouting roads though.

I took a huffy green machine front hub/tire and also cut off the hub mounting flanges. Then welded the mounting flanges to the front fork of a normal bike. Pedals are nice for places that have occasional flat sections or if you want to mess around on it in your driveway or a parking lot.

Yep what Slowbro said. A green machine is the easiest way. There are also a couple company's selling front rims set up with cranks.

I've also heard of some home made wheels. I might be wrong, but I think they take a unicycle wheel and cranks, change the sprocket to a free wheel sprocket. They then make a plate that mounts to the axle shaft. The plate has a couple pegs welded to it so it can grab the teeth on the sprocket. The pegs in the teeth is what rotates the sprocket for forward momentum.

As for pegs VS. pedals.
I think everyone would want pedals, that way you can ride it anywhere and also get a faster start on the downhills.
Pegs are just easier to do and cheaper. But still fun either way.

Same here. Saw a couple different Green Machines, but want to make sure I get the correct one for the front wheel assembly. Any pics?
