Dry film lubricant

Is it common practice to use a dry film lubricant such as molykote (molybdenum) or graphite on things such as CV's and front axle ends? I know wet lubes would be just asking for trouble but I hate the thought of having no friction reducing product on those things that rotate. Also, when I assembled my crawler I applied only a small amount of grease on the gears, just enough to cover them. It was some sticky stuff and I felt that only a little would be needed, am I wrong? Thanks for any feedback. BTW I did a search and was unable to find much info.

john deere dry graphite spray works great for me, stuff is tough as nails once you get a good coating on, and does way better than any grease of oil i've used in cv joints.

I agree with using "dry lubes" on some items.
I use LockEze for:
-All plastic parts (rod ends, drive shaft slip joints, knuckle pivots, etc.)
-Bearings outside of the axle
-Metal knuckle pivots
-Motor bearings (motor bushings get oil)
-Driveshaft joints

LockEze is a graphite lube that dries quickly and leaves a dry lube. It does not change based on temperature, won't gum-up, dirt won't stick to it, etc.

As to using it in CVD's, I have used LockEze as well as a medium oil, still making up my mind on that.

That LockEze is exactly what got me thinking about whether or not to use lube on external rc parts. I had to use it on, Guess what? a lock! I think I will give it a go. Thanks!
