fed gov shutdown

To put this in perspective. Let's say you drop 9 zeros from the debt that would make it $3,700. If the debt was $3,700 the republicans are asking them to cut $33 dollars from that budget. The dems are think $33 is too much.

Actually, the Dems agreed to that $33, but the Tea Party wants a lot more than the $32 Republicans wanted.

If the Dems wanted to cut the budget, why didn't they present and pass a budget last Oct.(as required by law) They had a full majority in the House and the Senate and Barry could have signed the Democratic budget into law regardless of what the Republicans or Tea Party wanted just like they did w/ the Obama-care fiasco?

To say that ANYONE, other than the Democratic party is to blame for the current situation is ridiculous!

Any number in the BILLIONS isn't even close to the amount of money we need to cut from the budget! We need to cut TRILLIONS of dollars just to get anything resembling a sustainable budget!

If they do close down, I have a solution.

When they reconvene Monday morning, have all of the newly-unpaid active duty military personnel surround the building, fully armed, and not allow anyone in or out (alive, anyway) until they can pull their heads out of their asses and get back to doing what is right for the country. "thumbsup"

It's still unclear if I will get paid during the shut down or not..... :(

My wife doesn't work and I'm not sure if we could make it long with no Pay Check coming in.

I actually came up with a perfect plan. We(the military as a whole) straight up threaten the government with death and replacement if they don't pull their heads out of their asses and get to work resolving their conflicts. There are bigger things in this world than cooking books.

Wrong...

To say anyone other than ALL federal politicians are to blame for the situation is rediculous.

Remember the republicans even in minority can turn in budget ideas to be reviewed.

Stop siding with Reps or Dems, start realizing its ALL of them ALL the time.

This whole situation disgusts me,our goverment is broken. This country needs a leader, sadly I don't see anyone on the horizon that can turn this country around.Makes me wonder how bad things are going to get before something gives.People are losing hope and when thats gone despiration sets in.Civil war you say? That would be bad for everyone, but it is going to take radical changes to turn things around.
Well here is an idea for you.... http://www.timpawlenty.com/
I live in Minnesota, work in Minnesota and I have absolutly NO complaints with him when he was our Gov. "thumbsup"
Just my opinion take it or leave it.

True in part but both play games and when in super majority as the Dems were the last to have ignore the other side pretty much.

Remember that even Obama came out and endorsed that idea with his comments of "you can't do the driving, you have to ride in the back" and all the references of how they "won".

Republicans have equal blame on many issues but on this particular issue the democrats have to eat the majority of it.

Getting back to the main issue of spending they both rode the wave then Obama and the last Congress went got super drunk and put the spending into light speed.

Fact is the cuts are going to hurt, everyone, everywhere, but it HAS to be done to avoid a complete collapse that is not an "if" but a "when".

We have to as a country make some major structural changes to the system and get out of debt. It in the end is a matter of simple math that no amount of emotion can get you past.

We have to also put a large portion of our budget towards paying off our debt, not paying down, paying completely.

I and my family have sacrificed much over the past 3-5 years and will probably do more, it's time for everyone to do this.

We have to stop being spoiled little brats demanding more and more and realize more always has to come from somewhere and when that somewhere is boosted with over 14 trillion in debt then the party is over.

We may have to realize our schools can't be so fancy, our roads quite so perfect, our government services so far reaching. We have to understand that there are problems we have to fix without the assistance of government. We have to take responsibility for ourselves and our well being. We have to let people sucking the government tit that don't want to stand on there own grow up or suffer the real consequences of their actions (or inaction's).

Our politicians need to look at trimming their costs, paying for their own insurance (as I and many others do), driving their own cars, using minimal staff, riding the bus instead of limos, first class, and air force supplied luxury transport. Maybe their offices don't need full remodels every time they are elected/reelected. Maybe the president shouldn't take so many vacations which costs millions logistically each time to support. Stop funding the arts, media, social programs, college funding, etc.

We have to slash the budget and starting at the top is the best place.

WRONG!

This particular situation belongs to the Dems plain and simple. Like I said, they had SUPER MAJORITY in both houses, as well as the White House. They ignored the Republican budget ideas and simply chose to ignor the law and not pass a 2012 budget during an election year plain and simple.

I will agree that in reference to the overall situation, BOTH parties are indeed at fault.

The republicans if they cared might also forgo their 1% cut for a 2011 budget and start working on a 2012. But it doesn't effect their pay so why would they THINK. Remember its only "$33" as pointed out...why not give in to keep the Military/fed employees (who votes) paid and work on a strong proposal for 2012.

Thinking = no politicians can use this function.

Ding!

This is a pressure play, pure and simple. The longer the system is shut down, the worse the Dem's look.

i don't even care about who's fault it is, the thing thats pissing me off is nothing is getting done about it. i was supposed to move this month to base, to be with my wife who i haven't seen since december, but now, its just not going to happen for the foreseeable future. i can't see my own damn wife because she's been forced into basically slavery (no pay, but its in the contract she still has to work, i call that slavery) for an unknown period of time, because the high and mighty on the hill won't quit bickering about money. thats what this boils down to for me, she's required to work for no money, for an unknown period of time, and i can't even go down to visit her. 1500 goddamn miles, sure she's just a phone call away, but dammit thats not cutting it, and hasn't been since november. this pissing contest involving people's lively hoods has to end, and thats all it is, a pissing contest about who is more stubborn. if any of them were in my shoes right now, none of this would ever be an issue.

The Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution outlawed involuntary servitude in 1865 by mandating that “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for a crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.” Yet in 2011 the same government that is charged with defending the Constitution appears to be preparing to order vast numbers of civilian employees, who have committed no crime, to work without pay under the threat [of] government initiated administrative discipline. This is frankly outrageous, and we fail to see how such a sweeping order survives constitutional scrutiny.

Well, if you are active duty you might want to check your LES. We are only getting paid half for this pay period! Bye Bye RC's! I guess I will pay half of my bills this month!
This is total bull$hit!

I've just been informed I'm non-exempt, so here comes the unpaid (most likely) vacation. Guess I'll start drumming up my "Government shutdown blowout" add for the classifieds now.

I still have to work and do it for Free...

Or I get fired.... I'm forced to work. What Crap.

That right there is the answer. Yes government needs to spend less, but they spend so much partly because we expect too much from them. We need to go back to a bit more primitive living, survival of the fittest. Yes this is the country of prosperity but only for those who work hard! If I get half a paycheck next week I'm buying food. Won't be able to pay rent, bills, or insurance which will result in late fees, which will have to come out of my pocket. Such is the life of an active military member, we never stop giving.
