Has anyone o ever tried to file down a motor axle ? I have a 5mm motor that i need to get down to 3.2mm.

If anyone of u has tried it lemme know what to think of :) ?

Pete

If you have access to a lathe or drill press, it's no big deal, just go slow so as not to take too much off. I wouldn't recommend filing or sanding by hand, as it would get out of round and off center pretty easily, meaning you would end up with a bad gear mesh;-)

I was thinking of running the motor at slow throttle and then use file / sandpaper. That way it would stay round.

I have found some 5mm pinions but the ones i need ( 48p metric) seems hard to find at bigger sizes , 20-25.. I have found smaller ones like 15-16 but think they might be too small.

I would be a lot easier to drill out the pinion gear with a 5mm bit than it would to grind down the motor shaft!

Yeah but when drilling up the hole dont u get really little room for the setscrew to hold the pinion in place ? Then i would need to find some pinions that has alot of material that can be bored out :)

How long is the motor body? Is the shaft removable? I may have some hardened 5mm shafts that are necked down to 3.2mm that fit your motor.

Its a brushless inrunner.

Yeah the best would be to drill pinions but need to find some that has enough material so the screw holds the pinion in place. Need 48pitch metric ones. Just read that 0.6mod are the same ones but waiting for confirmation on that.
