cbp27's '99 XJ Build

Hey guys,

This is my first build thread on this site. So take it easy on me.
I'm getting the Trail Ready version of the SCX10 with the Dingo body.
But my first change is to get the Pro-Line Jeep Cherokee Body. I had my own '99 Cherokee (first car!) It was Chili Pepper Red, so I'm trying to find the right red to paint it with. Here are some not so great pictures of my Jeep.
I had Pactra's Metallic Red in mind.
Any thoughts on what paint color/brand has the best match?
Thanks!

P.S. I'm colorblind so that's why I'm asking and I don't have all the experience.

Sounds good "thumbsup"

I'm not sure if the stock battery location is out back or up front, but definitely move it up front

Thanks! It's in the back, but you can change it to the front.

Scaling was awesome today!!! Wish I had mine there haha I guess it won't ship out until tomorrow because the status hasn't changed to "ship" yet :x
I'll post the videos up soon.

i wouldnt use a 55t in an scx-10 way too slow. i use a Holmes Hobbies 30t and its got just enough speed with a 15t pinion

I use a 35T with a 14T pinion on 3s LiPo, great wheel speed and low end control.

Hey Clay, might want to call Hobby Hut so they can get that 35T ordered so it's there next time you're here to exchange it. Remember the wait for my Short Course tires lol

Beings you're running a 2s LiPo, maybe a 16-18T pinion would be good between wheel speed and low end control.

FWIW I'd stay away from anything integy. and 55t might be too slow unless you're mainly crawling rocks... trail riding wouldn't be fun with a 55t scaler

From all my research, the motor is the only thing Integy makes that isn't complete crap, probably because they don't actually "make" it

yea, you've got one of them fancy lipo thingys! :flipoff: im just running some good 'ole 7.2nimh!"thumbsup" my 30t does everything i want it to and then a little. cant wait to see what it will do on 3s when i make the switch! heck i even run 8.4v on my Losi comp crawler! i think i am able to mount them lower than a lipo! ive got them on the front axle next to the servo!

Wrong Motor and Waterproofing!

Thanks for all of the suggestions!

I got the 55T from my lhs because they didn't have anything else in between 27T and 55T motors.

I'm definitely returning it and ordering a 30-35T motor asap.

Tonight I picked up this!

But the fumes are so harsh that I need/want some sort of protection (respirator). I'll post pics of waterproofing my stuff if anyone's interested.

Finished the first coat of Liquid Tape on my Sidewinder ESC. Now for the second. Then pictures. Still have to wait for the kit and everything else to Liquid Tape the receiver.

Called my hobby store. 35T Integy and Jeep Cherokee body are on the way!
Now I need to go buy some LEDs

Hey bud, are you just going to seal up the receiver box or what's the plan?

keep the Dingo front and rear bumpers - they look great with teh proline cherokee body! dont forget to pay atention to detail on the body - their were slight differences in the pre xj and 97+ years - ie: Side markers and blinkers, rear taillights and side trim and front windows.

Thanks for the tips! Already have it in mind!
Got some nice square LEDs for the headlights, tail lights, and sidemarkers.
I had a 1:1 '99 Cherokee as my first car so I have that to model off of.

Hopefully your truck's ready to go when I get back from vacation! You gonna get someone from the LHS to solder up your esc/motor or do you need to use mine? Just let me know and I'll let you borrow it if you need it "thumbsup"

btw, keep posting to get your post count up so you can sell all the stuff you're replacing lol

I'm trying to post all I can lol
High speed videos are on the way!

Here's a shot of the ESC after the second coat of liquid tape.

After the final (thick!) coat.

I couldn't get the chip board out of the rx case, so I ended up sealing the board onto the bottom of the case. Still need to attach the servo/esc wires and put a coat onto them to seal it all up.
