i have the honcho RTR. is the flat black paint jobs i'm seeing as simple as scuff the body and shoot it with flat black? if so what brand of paint so the green doesnt come through when you rub a rock. if this question has already been answered please shoot a link...........thanx

To get a flat finish it has to be painted on the outside, but there is no way to prevent the green from possibly showing if it gets scratched without somehow stripping the green paint off or using a clear body. I've seen people paint the inside of the body silver and the outside a flat color so when you scratch it it looks like bare metal.

I can't remember the name, but it seems i remember seeing a flattener for painting the inside of the body. CrawlerGraphics has done quite a few flat paint jobs.

thank you guys very much. i think i'll shoot it on the outside and hope for the best. i guess the benifit of ruining a body is the excuse to put a new one together"thumbsup"

Just shoot the outside with Krylon Fusion paint. It is made for plastics so it adheres to lexan too.

Here is a pic to a body done with Fusion paint...

I painted the inside with Tamiya Copper. On the outside I used Fasilver, then the Fusion paint. Doing this makes it appear to be raw steel, then rust as the body gets scratched deeper and deeper.

I actually just found out by accident at crawlapalooza doing a last minute paint job for a guy. i was useing pactra black backer and hit it with the hairdryer for a second and it turned into a flat black that stayed on for the next few days i seen it and still holding.

If you want to strip the green, you can try brake fluid. It's a little bit of work but it will take it off. There aren't many nooks and crannies on that body so it should be pretty easy to strip. Then you can clean it up and re-paint the inside any color you want.

i have used the brake fluid tirck on hard bodys but never thought to use it on lexan, hmmm...thanks

Just be careful not to let it stay on too long. I think it can make the body a little brittle.

By the way, I tried some Rust-Oleum Universal paint on the outside of one of my bodies. Worked great! Rust-Oleum makes a plastic paint as well but I didn't see any flat black and the Universal said it was for any material. The Universal had a nice satin finish so I went with it. Got it at Lowes but I think Home Depot may have it as well. It's got a weird top on it with no lid. I also saw two different plastic primers. One clear (at Lowes) and one white (at Home Depot) that will allow you to paint over it with a regular spray paint.
