Are you guys removing the batteries from your GT5 when not in use?

I really haven't used this radio much and I'm on my third or four set of double AA batteries. Does this thing have battery drain when turned off and idle on the shelf?

I always pull the batteries out of mine. They usually last me quite a few runs. When i got out with my trucks, i take 3 or 4 4s batts n get close to 2 hrs out of each batt.

Its a good habit to take the batts out of the radio, just as it is to take them out of your trucks. Plus it keeps them from corroding in the radio if the sit to long

I doubt it drains the batteries just sitting there turned off. It's a physical switch that completely disconnects the power.

I've never seen or heard of anyone taking the batteries out of their Tx until indybama here.

Get some rechargeable ones... 8 of em and a decent charger and you're set. Eneloops or something like that. You can even go Lipo, Lifepo, etc.

It does not have phantom battery drain when off. The on/off switch is a physical one and not an electrical one so the circuit is broken when off. You don't need to take the batteries out unless you fear for leakage (pretty much non-existent for rechargeable AAs) or you need to charge them.

I use Eneloop with mine and have been quite happy.

I bought an 8 pack of Amazon AA's with charger, then was gifted like 12 more batts from my lovely wife...(she was sick of buying me AA's) lol. They're great so far! (About 6 months of use), and total investment may not quite be 60 bucks or even 50??...i run my GT5 until i start seeing voltage displayed drop around 4.4/4.2v, then just drop & swap to charger, and off i go for approximately 5-7 days of on/off/steady use across multiple models.

Read-Up! Mod-On! Crawl EXCESSIVELY!

I’d also look into rechargeable AA’s. I like Eneloops and also have good luck with Amazon Basics.

More cost effective than disposables.

No need to mess with AAs at all, IMO. $20 for a two-pack on Amazon, and a single charge lasts at least twice as long as a fresh set of double-As.
Add in the fact that you can easily charge them 100+ times, and disposables make zero financial sense.

Do u have any issues with the lipo? Ive got a 2s lipo for my gt5 n if it drops any voltage at all, it goes stupid. Like the batt has drained to lvc, but it still shows 8v. I dont understand it, so ive just stuck with AAs

No issues so far. The Spektrum DX5C is the only radio I own that doesn't have a LiPo in it. I just picked up a second GT5 (still in the box,) so we'll see if that one is equally well-behaved.
