Ford 6.0 diesel motor

my first full size was a 98 ? dodge 1500 360 2nd year of the new body style .. i had so many things go bad on it .. so i fear dodge with my experience..

are all dodge diesels cummins ? ive heard the motor is the best but rest isnt so great.

The 1/2 tons are in no comparison to the 3/4 and 1 ton diesels, even the V-10s were a different story.

ep, also in CA theyre gonna be sold with 5in idle timers on them. no more letting it idle like youve always done with your old diesels, without any throttle input they'll shut themselves off after 5min. thanks EPA!!

im a diesel mechanic and diesel fanatic and even though i've always liked ford trucks, you couldn't GIVE me an 03-up ford diesel. they just keep getting worse.

im currently shopping for an 04-07 diesel dodge megacab 4x4. theyre much harder to find than fords but once i get one im not letting it go!!

I hear you. My grandparents got a '09 F350 and it's a hundred times better than ours was. I still like the 7.3L Excursion we had better that either of them. :ror:

7.3L are good motors and Ford has the best back seat if you are getting a 4 door.
Cummins are all good but Dodge has a horrible back seat

You obviously haven't ridden in the back of Aarons mega cab.

Yes all dodge diesels are cummins.

If you want the best of all worlds, buy that 6.0 and drive it out here and leave it with my step brother. He is busy 24/7 doing swaps. He swaps cummins motors, and allison trannies, into ford trucks.

I can't remember what he said he charges to do it, but I know he has a waiting list of people to have it done.

its actually kind of funny he mentioned that.. around here you cant buy a diesel dodge thats worth having or under 15 grand. but the gas dodges are all around 4 grand or so..
unless build quality of the rest of the truck with a cummins went up as well.. kinda shows you what the rest of it is worth.

and as far as calling me ignorant for not liking crappy gas engines:roll:

that would make for one hell of a truck. "thumbsup"

My brother has 120k on his 6.0 and he has had several issues that thru research was linked back to the TCM. Replaced it with a new one with the "old" program on it and problems solved.
I picked up an 05 a little over a month ago and at this point I like it. I wanted the cummins but after having dodges in the past I couldnt bring myself to buy one. They are great motors with a crappy truck wrapped around them The Chevys definatly seemed to be a better motor but the indy front bothered me as did the feel of the rest of the truck.
From what I have read the 6.0 is a hit and miss. Either you get one that will never have a problem or you get one that will make it 50k and blow up. Personally, if this motor goes Im going to look into the cummins swap.

The 03' in the link was a 6.0l. The 2003 MY had two different engine options. The 7.3l in early 03' MY and later the 6.0l. The 6.0l has the red in the badging. Only negatives really with the 2005-2007 suspensions is there was a TSB out for "Death Wobble" issues, which Ford later corrected in on 08'up models.

Tomorrows friday, I had to get "give Slave a hard time" off my weekly check list.

My friend's Chevy does that. Of course he deleted that "feature" along with the DPF reburner. He's had good luck with his 2 Duramaxs.

Another friend has had 3 Duramaxs and they were good to him. The Dodges were problems for him, one of them would go through rotors and pads every 30k miles. The Ford was a 6.0 and it was a nightmare.

No I have not, I have heard they are great.
However I doubt Tom is going to find a Megacab based on his price range so I didn't think that was germane to the situation.

Duramax is good, Chevys ride good and have a good back seat.

I thought so too untill I bought my mega cab. Now it has a bad ass back seat I even got to sit in it for a few hours on the last road trip. There is more leg room in the back then the front and it reclines.

Not true they are out there. the dealer I bought mine from wanted 27K for it I walked out the door for 22k taxes dealer fees and all. I just went to look at it didn't think it would be in my price range. But after seeing there sales wall for the week ( they had 1 sale all week) I told them what I would pay and just as we walked out the door the sales manager came and grabbed us and gave it to us for what we wanted."thumbsup"
