I got into this the cheapest way lol eachine camera/transmitter and a receiver for my phone.

Have you run it yet? That is too cool, but I thought the cloverleaf antenna has to be exposed 100% to the world in order for the signal work 100% of the time. No shielding. I also intend to run a FPV setup for video recording once I'm built. What is the equipment that you have there, which eachine stuff? Cheap is good, it won't break your heart/wallet if you destroy it in a crash, and the fact that it talks to the phone means you can record video directly as well as drive FPV, right?

The metal roof is probably hindering the performance though.

I will for sure fpv mine when I get it built.

I had a yeti xl that I fpv'd... miss that rig

Friend and I ran FPV on his Wraith, he bought a cheap Hobbyking pan/tilt system to use as well. It's pretty fun but I think some kind of Pan/Tilt servo is necessary so you can at least look around and get a better sense of where you're at. The weirdest part to me was getting used to driving with sticks at first, but it's not too bad after a run or two. Another problem at FPV level is that you can't see the rocks right below you so sometimes while trying to crawl you'll get hung up and can't tell why.

I have used it for go fast stuff, you can't read the terrain while flying along unless the camera is on the roof for a better perspective. OP's camera is dinky, looks like the antenna is attached to it as well. I may try one on the roof of my go fast car by mounting it in a light bar and keep it to 3/4 throttle. Waiting to see video quality from NitroDarwin to see if its worth the $$.

It's a eachine tx02 and rotg01, I have a cheap vr headset that I can put my phone in. I raided the wife's craft box for the velcro dots. Mounted camera to a little scrap piece of old licence plate with servo tape. Soldered a cheap ubec I had to to the cameras power leads so I can power off lipo or receiver. Currently running running off receiver but want to be able to move to other RCs

It seems fun in theory, but in reality I don't think it would be great. There are numerous obstacles such as the one Steetches mentioned.

I run a Eachine TX03 on the hood of my Yeti Jr. It's attached with velco and I have a 3d printed case with antenna cage.
It survived multiple rollovers and crashes.

I use my cellphone screen with a Eachine ROTG01 usb OTG receiver for the video.

It's fun and adds a little challenge to the trail runs.

For the Bomber I plan on using my cheap Firefly 7s action camera connected to a 5.8ghz transmitter off the main 3s battery.
Hopefully the interior is big enough to fit the camera inside.

Now if I could find a way to attach the cellphone to my rc4gs tx...

For the weekend warrior, this probably aligns with your statement. Perhaps to your surprise, however, some of the U4 community are interested is this as a racing format, as are many, many of the scratchbuild Trophy Truck/ Baja Rey/ Score TT /SC truck go fast crowd in order to have realistic races. Levels the playing field if you will. Ringer driver vs the newbie, having proper car setup, good/bad luck with breakages.... Put your camera on a 2 axis gimble for a comp crawling event. Purists would probably balk at the idea, 1:1 drivers would probably be all over it. Get this, a handful of 1:1 Trophy Truck drivers want a chance at the racing action if it happens, and it would get video coverage by a reputable off road outfit as well, just needs to become reality and then to give them a date. Think how the hobby/sport would expand/progress? Car camera/tx have been the problem. Just imagine, you could hold epic KOH (actually in Johnson Valley like 1:1) or Baja style races (class 4400 (RTR) and 4500(kit form)) in a 2-5 acre field FPV, with many racers on the course at the same time, like the real deal. Therefore, I am very anxious to see the footage from this "cheap" system. All the other bugs for being able to put on races are already worked out, so FPV racing could actually become reality. At the end of the day, FPV would make the RC experience truly "scale", right?

If it can be done with drones I'm sure it can be done with land RCs. I would like to try it, but it doesn't excite me.

With out pan/tilt it is harder to navigate especially on a trail type situation.

Also problem is 5.8g for video is worse the closer to ground you are especially if there are obstacle such as trees bushes and rocks and any type of hill will kill reception especially with non directional antennas and or low power video transmitters.

Another issue is at speed the bounce in the camera is mind numbing. A gimbal or dampening system would significantly increase the experience. At crawling speeds a pan tilt would do.

Sitting in the pits at a track wouldn't be too bad and a cheaper/low power system would do ok. But on a trail with less than clearsight between antennas you would need to use better/directional antennas with higher power box which requires cooling or for best results switch to 1.3ghz giving more signal penetration.

I have plenty of fpv gear from racing quads to test on surface applications. This will be fun

I made a fpv kit that can drop on any vehicle that I want. Funny that you ask because Lately I’ve been using it on my bomber. I’ll snap some pics later.

Just the idea of relatively high speed fpv on a 1/10 Rc makes me dizzy. That and the idea of having to wear goggles or watch a screen in order to do it seems novel, but less than exciting.

That said, Hats-off to those doing it!

I'm really interested in it too. I'm actually going to sell my two run old b64d to fund a set of googles and cam setup. My only issue is I know almost nothing about how to set a system up piece buy piece but I know I could build a better setup than buying something RTR.

If I do it I want to use a pan/tilt setup in place of the driver in my bomber. I'd like to set it up to at least be able to lean the cam out the window and see the drivers side front tire similar to a 1:1

It may take a 5-6 channel radio but I think it'd be a lot of fun. Especially to get it set up and then put the head set on some one else and then drive the bomber myself. Kind of like a VR passengers setup.

I guess I don't see the allure for this for trail crawling. Every 1:1 off road excursion I've been on I had a guy riding with me who acted as my spotter when the going go hairy and tire placement was critical. The beauty of RC crawling to me is you get to be the driver and the spotter all in one.

I could see this being interesting in a TT or a U4 event but unless you have pan and tilt capabilities your field of vision will be very limited. I'm sure it could be gotten used to.

Your FPV freq. is going to be critical if you want to do anything other than line of sight. Combine that with the power limitations the FCC puts on you and you may find yourself applying for a HAM license before you know it, lol.

Here is an older short clip with 30 mph runs, with a semi flexi camera mount/roof, zip tied to the roof of the chassis, trying for that true FPV view. This was before I added toe to the rear to reduce the car from being so squirly. Entirely different animal now. As someone else stated, this ideal for line of sight running, be it slow or fast. And yes, frequency selection for range is critical, probably requiring the ham license to be legit, especially on the large scale. A guy on the Traxxas Summit forum has solved that problem, when I get to that point, I will pick his brain about the ins and outs. For the speedsters, having a securely fixed camera is critical so you can keep your lunch, same as the 1:1. I did pit/chase support in the Baja 1000 10yrs ago, had a hand held video camera in the pre runner buggy. I could watch it, but many couldn't "stomach" hauling 60-80 mph through some really rough stuff along with the camera shake.

Check the clip below, pretend you're actually driving my car, and you'll probably find that its really not that bad.

Anybody got good news/updates for fpv driving? Video to share and what your equipment is?

Looking like the mfgs are listening. This option is coming on the Losi Super Baja Rey that due to hit the shelves in March. Perhaps others will follow. Perhaps we can retrofit this stuff onto our rigs.

Optional Spektrum FPV Mount*
Adding the optional Spektrum FPV mount lets you easily install an all-in-one FPV (First Person View) system. When combined with the Spektrum heavy-duty FPV camera (SPMVA2510) and a headset, you’re ready to experience a driving sensation more intense than any other vantage point can offer.*
