Rediscovered an old childhood favorite tonight. Came across the chicken hearts and gizzards the other day at the butcher and remembered my mom making these for us when we were kids. My grandma grew up in Illinois and used to cook these for my mom. Is this a dish my grandma made up cause she had 7 kids to feed and only one income? Or is this a dish others have had?

We used to always pick them up with my friend and his dad on the way to their deer lease. It was a little country store/gas station that made them fresh. Hard to find them like that anymore, most people can't cook them worth a crap.

I just fired up the ol grease cooker to 375. Thawed the hearts and gizzzards, dipped them in blended up eggs and then sit in a flour/salt/pepper mix for a minute to get the flour to stick real well and then dropped them in the fryer. Turned out just like mom made. Kind of wished there were more than 2 hearts in the 1lb bag I got as those are my favorite parts.

leaving now . Crunchy chewy meat is not my thing. livers are ok but gizzards = puke

someone gimme some fried livers and gravy. I can only eat about a handful though... those little shits are really rich.

I've never had hearts but I have had gizzards. nom
