Futaba 4PL Setup, Tips, Tricks & Help

providing you DON'T swap the motor wires????....yes, the "+" and "-" from the ESC are now 180* relative to the "north" and "south" magnets, instant motor rotation reversal.
Sooo....to reverse a brushed motor rotation, either rotate the endbell 180* or swap the 2 motor wires. Both do the same thing.
Timing is timing, it relates to "0" and the rotation of the armature.
Is you reverse the motor rotation you "change" the timing, not the degrees but the "advance" or "retardation".

Make a little more sense now?8)

I think we said the same thing. Wires off, motor in your hand, you reverse endbell and you haven't actually done anything. Except I believe on mine the advance marks now go clockwise from the zero mark instead of CCW. Or are you saying that's wrong? And yes...if you rotate the endbell WITH the wires attached, you've effectively swapped the wires and reversed rotation because of the wiring change.

Apologies for the non-4PL content.

What kind of lipo can be ran in the 4pls? Is there anyway to set a dig up along with winch and 4ws?

Lipo in a radio is never a good idea. Look for LiFE packs used in the 4PK. There are lot of those around.

You can only have two of those functions. Have you ever had dig and 4WS? Once you run 4WS dig isn't used very often. I had it on my Wraith.

Sounds good. I wondered because I haven't seen anyone with both and I have never had a vehicle with either. I will check the batteries out though. Thanks

I just picked up a 4pl in a great deal on rctech but it needs to be updated. I'm in Canada, is there anywhere I can send it in Canada to get updated or is the US address specified in this post the only place it can be done?

Also I was under the impression I would just have to pay for shipping to hobby services, but this form makes it look like it's actually gonna cost me at least $25 for return shipping as well which will bring this upgrade in at around $50 for me

I'm not aware of any place in Canada. The update does not cost anything. Just follow the instructions I've posted.

I was looking at extra receivers for the 4pl and seen that it should be compatible with the R603GF. When I pull up that receiver it doesnt say 4pl it only says 2pl. Has anyone tried one and can confirm either way?

Always check the first post of this thread first. There is a link to the post that lists all compatible RX's. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/elec...pl-setup-tips-tricks-help-12.html#post2782948

Don't waste money on that RX though. It won't fully utilize your radio AND costs more!

These are all cheaper:
TowerHobbies.com | R2106GF Futaba R2106GF 6-Channel 2.4GHz S-FHSS Micro Receiver
TowerHobbies.com | R2006GS Futaba R2006GS 6-Channel 2.4GHz S-FHSS Receiver 6J
TowerHobbies.com | FUTL7617 Futaba R2004GF 4-Channel 2.4GHz FHSS Receiver

Ok mebbe this is a stupid question, but I'm going to ask anyway.

Didn't realize the 4PL could support a 6 chan rx....That would work out perfectly for me for my scaler with the lights and all, but....If you use the 5th & 6th channel to power the lights, can you set the radio to turn them on and off still like on the other channels since it's only a 4chan tx?

Thanks

Nope, it will still only function like a 4ch radio. Those slots will just be live power which can help for plugging in lights and stuff.

What I was thinking about was taking the one out of my tlr 22(came with the 4pl) and putting it in a wraith, then putting the other into the 22. I will check out the other compatible ones though. Thanks

I just picked up the 2106GF and it does work as good as the one that comes with the PL. Best part is the 6 channel slots that gives you additional slots to power accessories and the tiny, tiny antenna.

The 2106 was a good find"thumbsup", I have 4 now and not had a single issue with them.

Can I adjust when the trigger activates? forward operation feels fine, I like how much free play it has before it starts moving. Reverse on the other hand, barely touch the trigger and it moves quickly. Can I adjust it so there is more free play before it activates reverse?

Sent from my uber smart, smart phone....
