Hey guys, I've been dropping by here for along time now so I decided to register and post something - I recently upgraded my old GMC 4x4 Xmod with a few new mods:

I added a custom muddy look paint job and I did a servo motor swap plus it has all the RS upgrades including metal ball bearings.

And here are the dirty pics:

if you call getting stuck the instant you hit the mud, rocks, sand...and so on...more capable, then yes get an OL. i have seen them run...cant crawl...cant play in the mud...it died when it hit the sand. the steering pot wires came loose. that is a problem with OL's and MZM.

Thanks for the comments guys! To answer the Q's : A OL and MZM are too expensive plus the are RWD and they can't do as much offroad anyways, I have a MZM and the only thing I like using it for is more of rally type races.
The set up on this chasis is AWD and the I think the only way the shaft would pop out is if you have the wrong one in there - maybe you can glue one of the AWD gears on the end that it pops off the most. The tires are from Aoshima model kits - i only have like 3 sets but the kits are expensive too.

New And Final Pics (5/4/07)

I did a few little things: I added a custom metal front clip which also doubles as the skid plate, a new roll bar with mock spot lamps and I adjusted the back cover so it has space in the bed to put stuff in it.

Here's the final pics of a few more mods that I did to the GMC:

Well, that's all the mods i'll be doing on this truck because it's been sold and it's already been shipped to it's new owner. I know he'll have fun with this one - I sure did!"thumbsup"

bad ***

dude that is bad *** and to think my x-mod was gona be a dust collector... well not anymore i think i might just have to mod the hell outa mine i have the f-150 with the lift kit on it, looks like i got a proect ahead of me!!
the video of your x-mod is amazing mine dont do that
anyways very nice man i give it the 2 thumbs up

Have you done any other drivetrain mods besides the servo motor swap?
Have you locked the differentials in any way?
Seems a little more capable than mine...

I did lock the differentials on the back and front, I also added the metal bearings on all the parts that needed them also. Other than those it's the servo mod that made it push through the mud without much problems at all. "thumbsup"

Yea, these xmod trucks have so much slop with the bushings it's ridiculous.

When I drive forward the front wheels get pushed to where they have like 20* of camber and 10* of toe-out just due to sloppy parts fit between the knuckle/bushing/stub shaft junction.

I'm waiting for a bearing kit to come, hopefully it will be here soon. I might as well lock the diffs while I have it disassembled. This would be a fun little toy to pass the time at work with if the front wheels behaved with some predictability.

Is that one of those little Bluebird micro-servos? Those can be picked up pretty cheap...

The wheel slop is F'ed up on the stock chasis - that's why it's better to get the bearings - they are cheaper now but it's getting hard to find @ RS lately. The servo is a HS-50 ( I had the type in the wrong info before) and i'm not sure of the brand but I did pay like $25 for that little thing. The HS-55 is about $9 @ HobbyPeople and it has afair amount of torque too.

@theshimonator - locking the diffs on a car doesn't seem to change the radius but on the truck it's a bit different with the offroad lift kit installed - the radius is abit wide but it's fun overall.

hay i have one bit of advice dont lock the front diff just lock the rear you cant realy tell the diffrents when forwheelen but if you lock the front your steering realy suffers i did it to my stock f-150 and it did good off road but when i hit pavement the steering went to **** its a nice thing to have both locked but adviz against it
