my soldering iron is going out anybody know of a good one with a reasonable price?

good soldering iron?

i would get a really nice weller w/ a stand, I have a radio shack one thats digital that I really like"thumbsup"

When my cheapy iron began failing I bought a low-end soldering station, on the suggestion from here: http://www.ladyada.net/library/equipt/kits.html
The station is a Weller WLC100, runs about $45-50, depending on where you get it (Jameco, Mouser, Digikey, local Fry's, etc). For general soldering I heat it up quickly at 5, then turn it down to ~3. Since I occassionally solder circuit boards, I wanted temp control and a good holder.
Of course, if you don't solder circuits or need temp control, then a small iron (~15W) would probably be a better choice.

Ditto on that. I had (2) Wellers and several locals had them too. However, if you leave them hot for a long time they burn up the tips. Then they never heat up. The Hakko I have warms up in less than 30 sec. I have been using the same tip for 2 yrs.
Remember....you get what you pay for. :lol:

and i will 3rd the hakko 936. i've owned weller, and all the other brands. hakko costs more, but way worth it. it will last you the rest of your life with proper care.

I agree. Soldering seems to be something alot of guys overlook when it comes to getting the right equipment for. You can go wrong with this Iron set and it's versatility for different situations is awesome.

I personally have a butane weller I take with me to the rocks. I don't run connectors at all. I suppose that is something that has stuck with me from my racing days. Anyway if you need to do any trail repairs you can.
