Greatest metal band ever???????

so post it up what are your thoughts? I am torn between Judas Priest, and Sabbath. British steel was the first metal album I ever bought, but it is hard to deny the influence of Ozzy and Sabbath.

Metal, pure metal? No death, or anything else......I'd have to say Slayer. They were one of the first thrash bands (along with Metallica and Megadeth) and have done some kick ass stuff over the years (specifically "Undisputed Attitude"). Now, I havent really like much of their stuff since that album (UA), but they were part of a big shift in music in the early 80's.

Oh yes slayers cover of the minor threat great "guilty of being white" on UA is pretty good. I wore out my copy on tape (the young ones are saying whats a tape) of reign in blood.

Haha....yes, I have a TON of tapes (mostly metal and punk) in our closet....and still have a tape player in the garage.

That whole cover album is good.

I never really understood why people got so upset over slayer covers of Minor threat songs. I thought they were pretty f-ing good

Yeah.....Ian McKay thought they were being racist because they changed the lyrics in one spot to "guilty of being right"....

That whole album is awesome! I especially like Filler...that's one of my favorite MT songs....and I like Slayer's version.

BTW, another classic thrash band......Testament.

Also, it's funny....Tom Araya lives just a few hours north of me in this tiny little town off I45. I've stopped there before and thought about looking him up. :lol:

I am a big fan of minor threat, and fugazi but sometimes i think ian mackay takes life a little to serious.
TSOL is also another great one.

Pinning it down to one band is very difficult, and in fact my head almost exploded a few seconds ago while I was trying to give an answer.

I've had the same discussion about punk music with some of my buddies....some think Ramones, some Misfits, some MC5....you can never pin it down!:ror:

I know what you mean as soon as I posted this i started thinking of all the great bands and wanted to post 20 more. Your should look for a band called raised fist if you have not already heard of them
