I somehow don't think that the threat of punishment (be it eye for an eye or jail or financial/other) is going to deter these criminals from committing such acts. Might work for small stuff (like burglary or theft etc etc) but not in cases like these, or any other murders.

I disagree, I think you'll find most when in this exact situation would choose to run over fight. Many of these people were likely sleeping and startled by the sound and in the panic people do tend to run...thats part of fight or flight.



That assumes your wife is there. What if it was just you and one child, or more children. My point is we don't know everyone's situation on the bus, nor their training that I know you and your wife have that would help in a situation like this.

This is what sickened me the most.

That Li killed the 22-year-old carnival worker was never in question at the trial. Li has admitted he killed McLean but pleaded not guilty.

Very odd. It seems like he realizes what he did, therefore in my eyes and looks like everyone elses...he's at fault and needs punishment to the fullest extent of the law...not a pysch plea.

And not only did HIS lawyers believe that, but so did the Crown lawyers, who are obviously under SIGNIFICANT pressure to bring this case to a 'just resolution.'

This is a horrific and sad event, but I don't think it was preventable, and I don't believe that any changes can be made to prevent this type of incident from happening again.

People with mental illnesses exist, and always will. They travel, and always will. And they, occasionally, lose it and do something awful. And they always will.
