thats pretty cool, we pick guitar amp tubes the same way..i know sovteks are used under different brands and electroharmonics8) do you have to adjust the bias when you change tubes?

Yeah, I feel I've finally gotten a grasp on the sound signature of the set up, so the next logical move was to change it. :ror:

ya man its fun to play"thumbsup" guitar players and audiophiles are allways searching for the perfect tone/sound..allways just around the corner..lol but its all good to have options to play with"thumbsup"

Not if they're the same type of tube with the same general specs. It's when you go to different tube types (that also work with the amp) will you then need to bias them if the amp isn't self biasing.

My podcast thingy is a lot bigger:

IMG_8775.jpg

On low speed it captures 6 hours of whatever I have running thru the sound card. Then I play it back on the other deck in the main system. Playback head on this one is worn down pretty far, but it still records just fine.

Suck it, digital!

As a bonus, it keeps the den nice and warm.

All I see are beer bottles and pill containers.

At Stu's house, everything sounds good. :afro:

The powers of new hobbies and Amazon have struck! Those bastards!

Amazon is ending up being a scary thing, and I'm getting sucked in. I think they know exactly what they're doing with their fluctuating pricing. They give you some suggestions based on what you've been looking at, then slowly lower the price until you bite. But if you don't grab it right then, the price goes back up to normal for a while, then they do this again until you finally bite.

Regularly about $239 for Sennheiser HD595 headphones and recently replaced with a newer model, Amazon keeps showing me these things like I want em or something. Last night I almost bit, cause they were only $139. This morning here they are at $134. Sign up for the Prime shipping club free trial and get free two day shipping, or pay $4 per item for overnight. Well what the shit? Fine.

So I'm getting new headphones tomorrow.

Did I really need these? Not at all. But now I can use these as beaters and save the HD800s for the better moments. And I have something that pairs mo better with an iPod or the Mac without an amp.

By the way, a great site to see the fluctuations in pricing is called www.camelcamelcamel.com

So, audio DIY? I've built tubed mono blocks and a tubed preamp in the past. Guess I got an itch.

This is a step down transformer box. It converts voltage into current. And the effects are for one, reduced volume (not exactly a good thing), a stronger grip on the bass notes (a good thing), a smoothed out high end (sometimes a good thing), lower distortion (good, always) and less noise (good).

$12 in parts from Radio Shack and a tin.

Big what? 1/4" plug? Adapters. "thumbsup"

I wasn't sure if the 1/4" jack would fit in the spot I wanted, so I went the safe route.

Cool thread! I haven't read the whole thing but was wondering if you have considered In-Ear monitors such as Ultimate Ears or JH Audio or even Shure? I currently use Shure SE215 In Ears for my on stage monitors (I'm a drummer in a rock band) and one day I plugged them into my phone and WOW they sound awesome. And they reduce outside noise by about -36db! Which is of course WAY better for your ears when playing in a very loud rock band! LOL

Ever listen to your headphones or speakers and realize the drums are backwards? Like the hi hat comes from the left, as if we're playing the drums, not listening to someone play them? It annoys me.

Listening to The Dismemberment Plan I was glad to hear they got it right. Until I watched some Youtoob videos and found out the drummer is a lefty. So they still got it backwards. Numerous times over and over again, seeing the band ruins what I think of them in my head.

HAHA This is funny as I was just talking about this with my Vocalist/Guitarist. One of my favorite bands is MUSE. They have a lefty drummer...but everything is still panned as if a righty were playing and the listener is standing right behind him facing the audience.

I sure have. Almost bought some Etymotics for working in a loud environment, but after weeks of debating I chose not to. I still need to be able to hear what's going on around me, and very often need to remove the headphones from my ears, and didn't want to deal with the lick and stick or anything for optimal results. I think Ety claims 42 db noise blockage. Which is quite a lot.

Occasionally I'll wear 29 db reducing ear plugs and it's like I can't hear anything I might need to hear being a plant manager. I can't imagine 42 db. If I concentrate I can still hear almost everything, but not those noises that I might need to, if ya know what I mean. I wear them if I plan on having a serious headphone listening night. Keep those ears fresh.

All my coworkers think I'm weird.

Sadly, I use the included iBuds with my iPod at work. But as noisy as it is, they're fine, and free in a sense.

and the listener is standing right behind him facing the audience.

So lame. Really can ruin an album for me. Unless I can relax and just mentally not care. That means, beers to the extreme.

Since this thread is about headphones, I'm looking for a something I hope someone knows where I can find it.

Due to awesome rules set fourth at work, I'm only allowed to use 1 ear bud while on normal working hours. I'm usually underneath a car, underneath a dash, or in an awkward spot where the bud falls out, or the other bud hanging down gets pinched. I've been going through headphones like toilet paper. I've tried expensive ones and cheap ones. They all last about a week. Once the wires get pinched the sound goes to crap. Then its on to a new set. Its getting expensive, but without music my days would be a drag. They listen to the top 40 or whatever and its the same dam song every hour.

So I'm looking for a 1 bud headphone that can last. Bluetooth would be sweet, but not necessary, I know I can use my handsfree device, but I'm looking for something sound specific. I do interact with customers time to time, so I don't want to look like a dork with a normal bluetooth in my ear all day. I'm using my iphone for music. Anyone got some suggestions?
