Hobby Wing EZRUN crawler system

I have one of these systems brand new in the box and I have been wondering how it is going to work for me. Seems that everyone is getting decent results from it on 2C and 3C lipo, but has anyone run it on regular run of the mill stick packs ?
I don't have any lipo gear at all, so would this thing be worth the jumpstart into lipohood... Or should I just go pick up another rooster ?

I've run mine on 7.2v 1500 mah stick packs, it does good also. Has more punch with the 3s lipo. I can get about 20-30 minutes of crawling time (not wide open) out of the stick pack.

Ernie, your brake issue is in that stock motor. If they'd used a 540 size stator and coil pack, they would of been fine.

What motor would you suggest I use? I traded for this truck a couple months ago and its my first brushless system, as well as lipo battery so I don't know too much about them besides what I've read.

Sorry John, didn't realise you still had outrunners. I'll get me one I think :lmao:

***Edit***

I just bought two

Slow motor does not make it a crawler motor. Probably just as good as the Schumaker "crawler" motors that were just slow two pole sensorless inrunners.

The tacon motor won't start up in a bind. You have to have an outrunner to produce enough torque for sensorless startup.

Shameless plug: My Revolver motor was extremely popular as a sensorless outrunner for many years. It bolts up like a standard 540 and uses standard pinions http://holmeshobbies.com/product.php?productid=117&cat=0&page=1

I just wanted to say I pick up a Revolver from the classifieds and got in hooked up last night. Keep in mind I'm currently on a 1500mah 7.2V standard battery.... I can't believe the difference it made. I have great brake power now. Wheel speed is faster, I'm running 87T-14T trans gears. The stock EZRUN motor was slow then picked up ( is that cogging? ), the revolver just goes. I did get in a hard bind and popped a Traxxas stampede drive shaft. I believe once I do MAXX shafts I should be good to go.

The Revolver outrunner also has a sound of its own...... I like it myself.

I highly reccomend anyone running the EZRUN crawler brushless to pick up a Black Revolver outrunner from Holmes Hobbies.... they are the bomb.

Hey, JRH...what size ESC would you recommend then with the Revolver? Would a 35A be sufficient on a lightweight 2.2 (my old BMVII) running 2S 1300Mah 40C Lipo? I wasn't sure what the load draw is on your motor.

I might have to go this route then. Once HobbyPartz gets the 35A back in stock (they say in less than 2 weeks), I can get it as well as your Revolver for around $65 as a package. Not a bad price for a capable brushless setup. "thumbsup"

Now, when are you going to find a new supplier for the brushed motors for my Losi Mini? :) Or, do you know of a good outrunner that I could run in it?

A little 22mm diameter outrunner would do well, but it has to be fast to hit the speeds you need. I haven't really looked into them yet. Something around 4000kv.
