Hobbyking esc.

Holmes BR-XL....up to 6S capable, brushed only, great BEC onboard.

If ya need brushed/brushless then MambaMax. It will take 4S lipo.

The sidewinder can take 4s, but it beats on it pretty hard and makes the internal BEC useless. I don't have one handy to look at, but I do think the caps are 18v rated.

Thanks John. Excuse my noobishness but the caps are rated at 18 volts whar are the caps? I'd rather have one of your Brxl's then a Sidewinder though cause then I'd have a piece on mind.

Caps are capacitors. They smooth out the ripple voltage (a problem) and keep other parts from getting over loaded. Can anybody double check the rating of the caps on the sidewinder? If they are 16v or 15v rated then 4s is not safe for the controller.

Don't forget Castle has a rebate on the Sidewinder too, so that helps make them a pretty good deal (assuming they will handle what you need)

If the sidewinder can't handle 4S safely, then the BRXL is the way to go.

Or a MambaMax............................certainly more headroom than the 'winder.

I cant see any voltage markings on the one I have apart(a dead one).....

330
EFP
8R5

those are on the top of the caps, nothing anywhere else.

Thanks for the help. I really appreciate it. Also thanks to all the other people that are chipping in.

I have run mine on 4s lipo plenty, but like I said it is riding the line of safety for sure. If you have a battery that isn't up to the task, the ripple voltage gets worse and the ESC can pop.
