If I text someone I make sure I write out the words instead of shortening any words to: c u l8ter.
Now on the other hand there is another "lingo" on the internet called leet speak, and that is where you substitute numbers for letters but not in place of them. For example using a "0" instead of an o. Ling0
Now before you go ahead and say that is not acceptable, it is a form of language just like Ebonics. Ebonics is a recognized dialect, and is studied in college classrooms.
