Would the boiling process be safe with 1/18 scale tires and aluminum wheels?

I'm not sure what kind of aluminum you are working with, But I had a set of JPS wheels glued to some tires and boiled them as well.. No damage or discoloration was done to the aluminum rims

Alfy

if you used rubberized CA you cant use debonder to get the tires off. only use it if you used normal CA
Thanks for the info, guess I'll either stick to normal CA or Shoe Goo.

YAHOOOO....did the oven at 400'F, let em sit on foil for 20 minutes, and they came off like buttah!!!!!! This was with Stampede white wheels and ProLine Moab 2.2s.

Follow up: So what's the best way to get all the residual crusty glue off the tires?

The outer bead (side that was down next to the tinfoil) came off with most of the ca staying stuck to the wheel. But for some reason the inner bead (side that was up while baking) came off easily but most of the ca stayed on the tire instead of the wheel. :x If I left them in for the full 45 minutes, would that help? Or?

two words: Goo Gone. eats the glue, shines the wheels in the process cause its all natural citrus oils and will protect the tire from any cracking, and it leaves your tires and rims smelling like a bag of florida oranges. pretty nice unless you dont care for it, smell goes away quick though

.

acetone dab a corner of a shop rag whipe it around the beed

the snot will be gone "thumbsup"

make sure your foams are out of the tires it will eat foam

run the tire under hot water when your done

I tried the "recipe" for the 350* oven method, and it worked perfectly. Thanks a lot for all the help!!!

hmmm, i think my french bread pizzas are telling me something here, they cook at 350, and i do want to try to narrow my m2k's.....8)

let's see how this works once my pizzas are done....

Having a little trouble here. I boiled the tires/wheels first and couldn't get the tires off. No matter how hard i pulled or at what angle, the bead would tear in some spots. I just tried the oven trick and got the same results. I dunno what the previous user used to glue the tires on but they are ON there for sure. These are revolver wheels with 2.2 swamp dawgs. I trying my best not to damage the bead or tire and i just can't get em off.

update: well i tried the oven trick again at 400 for 10 min (after turning it off) and let em sit for about 5 min. It did nothing to loosen the tires. I think the guy used a whole damn bottle of CA on these tires/wheels. I just tore 1" of the bead off one of the tires...this totally sucks. Using an hobby knife to get em off only worsens it....grrr.

He may have used a lot of CA when gluing up the tires.Try heating the oven to 350,turn it off and let them sit in the oven for 30 minutes.I've had to do that a couple of time because I used too much CA.

Already got em off. After failed attempts in the oven, i had to cut them off. Ruined some of the the tire bead but still useable. Turns out my expected jeep body was larger than i predicted and now i can't use the 2.2 boggers. Way too small.
