hows is the axial scorpian for banging around?

Hi there, I wanted to get back into the hobby, but I wanted something 4wd, as well as a kit so I would have the joy of putting it together, something I always missed out on when I used to have the stadium trucks in the past.

So I have been looking at the Axial Scorpian kit, my LHS suggested it because I really like the idea of doing some low speed crawling, but he also said I can put some wheel extenders on to give it a wider wheelbase, take the diff locks out, and put on a slipper clutch with a higher turn motor and it makes a pretty decent monster truck for banging around with, and doing some jumps, so how true is this? does it drive relatively well as a monster truck? or is this kit specifically for rock crawling and nothing else? I do see axials website does advertise the RTR as a rock crawler, and rock racer, but I don't see much video of it just banging around, taking jumps, just climbing.

Any thoughts would be very appreciated.

You've bascially described the stock Wheely King: it already has a wider stance, has open diifs, has a slipper clutch, bigger tires and a faster motor. Plus it's ready to run with electronics for just over 200.00.

Then when you get bored with it as a basher, you turn it into a cralwer"thumbsup""thumbsup"

yeah I was looking at the wheely king, but the only thing is, I don't get to put it together, which is something I would really miss. I guess these axial trucks just arn't meant for anything other than rock crawling? Bummer, guess its back to the drawing board looking for a kit that I can put together, that will give me something I can crawl with, as well as take a few jumps, if there is one out there.

You might take a look at the new Tamiya Land Cruiser. One of our club members just got one and it looks pretty promising. I'm not sure how much of a jumper it would be though.

well I am not necessarily wanting to jump it, I just want it to do something other than rock crawling, so that if there was nothing around to climb, I could still have some fun with it just banging around.

Could you use these things indoors, set up a bunch of couch cushions, blankets, cardboard boxes, whatever you have laying around the house going up the stairs as an obsitcal course? I just don't have much nearby to climb, and don't want it to sit on a shelf looking pretty, I want it to be used, so the more things I can use it for, the more likely I can drop a bunch of money on it hehe

With what you're describing, the wheely king is what you want. When you get it just take it apart and put it back together again, while you're at it you might find that there are some upgrades you'd like to do. You'll be set. It's a great basher.

It really depends on what you want to do. The axial can be a good basher, but it isn't as good for this as the wheely king. It is a much, much better crawler in stock form.

check out the indoor rock crawling courses they have shown on youtube.com to give you some ideas. i'm making a rock crawling course in my basement, and the cool thing is you can always move the rocks and obstacles around so you'll never be bored w/ the same course. as for running it indoors, thats one of the reasons that i got hooked and use my rock crawlers more than my revos and t3s! trust me, you shouldnt be getting bored if you use your imagination to make your crawling areas.
