Hey guys this is a bit out of the ordinary for around here..but im not really on any other forums or anything to ask but would think some of you knowledgeable folk may have some input.

This does not relate to a crawler, in fact the opposite, its a crazy powerful on road speed car.

What im doing is putting a 12,000w / 400amp + motor in an xo1. (thats max, its 6500w continuous)
The esc that I will be using is a castle xlx 1/5 scale esc. Will probably run 2 x 6s 60c 5000mah packs in parallel for about 600amps potential continuous battery discharge.

Castle has told me this esc is good for 160a continuous, and comes with a burst limit of 200a from factory which can be disabled or raised. They said it would probably run for 1 max power run before needing a rest with the current limit disabled.

What I want to know is if I kept the current limiting in place (or set it a little higher) what effects would that have on the system other than not being able to run the motor to its full potential? i.e would limiting the potential max amp draw via the esc make the motor or esc run hotter?

thanks

Since electric motors tend to deliver max torque near zero RPM, that means max amp draw is in that area too. A holeshot would probably activate protection immediately. A running start (spin & drop or slow accel) may side-step it, but it would be like seeing how close you can keep gasoline near a flame w/o it combusting...

You might have to bit the bullet and get an airplane ESC with banks & banks of mosfets.

Thanks for the info guys. I went with the castle xlx 1/5 scale esc. I got some info from castle and the xlx should be able to do what I want it to (albiet briefly lol).
Here is how its sitting at the moment..waiting for new esc to arrive
