Hi there!
I'm HoneyBadger I'm 27 and I'm from Christchurch New Zealand.
I have always loved the idea of getting my own RC Crawler and I'm looking to buy one once i figure out which one would best suit me.
Maybe someone could give me some advice n what could be a good first truck option for what i want.
I've always been into the outdoors especially living in the south island of New Zealand I've got a Toyota Landcruiser that i take out camping and off roading as often as i can, and i would love to have a RC truck to take with me so i could have some fun out on the tracks too.
Now I believe what I want is a "scaler" something that is almost like a model of a real truck.

as far as what i want out of a RC Crawler: (budget, around $300-$400 USD)
Something that is decent quality.
Something that i can customize (accessories, different vehicle bodys bull bars, all that cool stuff to make it look like a real truck)
I would love to be able to model the RC truck after my real life truck.

I'm not sure of anything at the moment in terms of what to buy. i have done a bit of research and i do like the look of the Axial SXC10. but I'm not sure if I should go for the version 1,2 or 3.

Any advice would be really helpful. I'm sorry if this same question has been posted before but for someone very new to the Hobbie there is a whole lot to wrap your head around.

Cheers, Badger

TRX4, Enduro, SCX10III, Trail King, etc....they are all pretty good. Even though the SCX10 III is out, the II is a very capable truck as well. Really can't go wrong if you stick with the big names. Bodies/bumpers/wheels etc can be mounted on any platform really.

I'm partial to the TRX4 myself...built like a tank, lots of features.

If you shop locally, what do they have and support?

I enjoy researching into hobbies like this one. Your budget will get you started. Then batteries, charger, upgraded parts.....as far as you want to go.

Welcome aboard. A scx10ii or iii, trx4 I think would be some good choices in a rtr. Lots of parts available plus tons of aftermarket stuff out there. You will eventually want to get some good lipo batteries and charger. Sounds like you have a pretty nice landcruiser, post some pictures of it like mentioned lol.

Welcome to RCC!
Arguably the most durable truck currently on the market is the TRX4 which also has an extensive aftermarket. The TRX4 can be purchased as a RTR or kit depending on your preference. Traxxas also recently released the TRX6 6x6 which is growing in popularity.

Hands down the TRX4 would be your best bet. They are so reliable and overly engineered. The only thing I would do is get a better steering servo. You can get the TRX4 Sport, which has permanently locked diffs and a "regular" body that is not licensed and a single gear.

Personally, I love scale looks so I got a TRX4 Blazer last year that I absolutely love.
