Hello RCCrawler Users, I'm Alex and I just bought an Axial RR10 Bomber Kit.

I am a senior service technician for a local company here in Rochester, NY and am skilled in electronics, mechanics and in troubleshooting of chemical manufacturing processes all over North and South America, also Asia and the Middle East. Soon to retire in the next year.

I'm excited to assemble a car and to test my driving skills.

I am overwhelmed with all the accessories available.

I need some help in selecting some basic components and am looking for recommendations of what and where to buy things.

During my first shopping trip to my local hobby shop I purchased the Axial RR10 Bomber kit, a metric hex driver set from Horizon (1.5mm, 2.0mm and 2.5mm) and a Savox SW-0231MG Waterproof High Torque STD Metal Gear Digital Servo for steering. I have not yet taken this servo out of the package.

I think my next purchase should include a battery for the car, a battery charger, drive motor and some type of motor controller.

I want to start driving this RC around my neighborhood, the environment will be grass, sidewalk and asphalt.

Can some of the more experienced RC enthusiasts give me some recommendations of what to purchase and what to stay away from?

Thank you I am grateful for any and all input.

Welcome to the hobby! You'll get a ton of different suggestions. A helpful bit of info will be what your budget is. For my first kit build (not a bomber) i went with a dx4c transmitter and receiver from Spektrum. It's about 100 bucks online (RPP is a great place to shop). Holmes Hobbies has great reviews on here for ESC and motor combos. For me, i went with Castle sidewinder 3, BEC, and castle link (i got a good deal on it). I went with a cheap axial 35t motor.

Either way, study up on brushed vs brushless, which will depend on what you want your truck to be able to do. Play in the forums, and on youtube for more information than you'll ever need! Have fun!

I probably would get a different servo. The servo you bought might be adequate for higher speed work, but if you decide to do some rock crawling you'll want one with higher torque.

Welcome to the hobby, mate!
Your servo IS a bit on the under-powered side, however it should be alright for the intended environment that you have described. If/when you start getting into more challenging/crawling terrain, ideally you'll want something with 350+ oz/in of torque.
Regarding batteries, most people run 3S LiPo in their rigs, some even run 4S.
I recommend picking up at least a couple of good quality 3S LiPo packs with at least a 30C discharge rate. Hobbyking is a good source of quality, cheap batteries. A lot of people (myself included) run Turnigy brand batteries with good success.

There are a ton of motor/ESC options out there, whether you want to run a brushed or brushless setup and depending upon your budget.
I suggest heading over to the RR10 Bomber section of the forum, there is a lot of information there and you can check out what everyone else is running to give you a few ideas.
